His Temporary Mistress was a rather bland read for me. I never really felt a connection between the main characters - Violet and Damien. While he wasn't cruel to Violet, Damien was just so cold throughout most of the story. There never seemed to be the growing awareness that Violet was not the person he thought. He was more than willing to carry on a sexual relationship with her with no consequences and what bothered me the most was that Violet was willing to do the same, until she finally figured out that she loved him. I loved her honesty and integrity at the beginning - not wanting to lie to his mother and staying true to herself - so it seemed very out of character for her to carry on a sexual affair. I was also hoping to see her teaching at her school - something that it would have been good for Damien to see as well. Very anti-climatic ending and missing a lot of emotional connection.
