Okay, it's time for all of you to step out into the sunshine!  Our Historical Fiction Swap is open for signups on the Games forum.  Here is a link to the thread:

Out with the New, In with the Old - Historical Fiction Newbie Swap - SIGNUP

If your eyes are prone to glaze over at a long list of rules, then only read the parts that are in red.  I have highlighted the important things you need to know before you commit to the swap.  You can read the rest of it in small bites, or just figure it out as you go along. There will be lots of people who will help you.

Come play everyone.  It's lots of fun, the people are super nice and helpful, and it's a great way to learn about new books you might want to read.  Did I mention I have won quite a few books that were on my wishlist by playing these games.  Give it a try.

Okay, I'm very frightened, and after reading Christa's rules, I'm confused, but because I had told Christa I'd give it a try if she got a simple game going, I signed up.  Lord help me.

C'mon, HF peeps!  Ante up.  Step up to the plate!  If I'm going to make a fool out of myself in the Games Forum, I want company!

Okay, Christa, Shelley asked me, so I'm going to TRY this. Please bear with me! Oh, I need to forewarn you all, I will be pretty busy from Feb. 15th to the 21st - lots of company. Is this going to mess things up?

Jeanne - Somehow I think our very presence is going to mess things up. Your company can't make it any worse.  LOL!  Thanks for joining me.  Now I'm off to see if my arm twisting worked on Valli.

Jeanne it won't mess anything up.  Generally what you do if you know you'll be unavailable for a certain amount of time is PM the host with the moves you'd like her to make in your absence.  Like "If my turn comes up I'd like to steal from Ann" or "please ask Jenny (nickname) to reveal for me" or something like that.

ETA:  Sent my credit- I'm in.  This swap will fit in nicely with my reading plans this month :)

I'm sorry, but I'll be unable to play due to a very sore arm.

Jeanne....Holly is right....if you are going to busy, you can PM me your moves in advance.  Then if your presence is needed and you aren't able to stop by during your 24 hours, I will make the move for you.  But I think we will be done by the 15th anyway.

Valli....take some Advil and get yourself over there.

Oh, Valli, Valli, Valli -- if the rest of us are willing to reveal and steal and form a daisy chain and ride white elephants and do the limbo, you're joining us -- "sore arm" indeed! So send in your credit -- NOW.

Just yell if you need help with the rules. I have played one daisy chain game and I get the rules now. It is pretty simple and moves quickly. They are fun. I have picked up some really good books through the games. It is some entertainment.

Christa,

When does the game start, and how long do they usually last?

I've actually played this game on another site (with scrapbook supplies, though, not books) but we're usually done in a day. Of course we don't let anyone have 24 hours...you have to be online for most of the day if you want to play.

I'm def. interested, but want to be sure I'll be around enough to commit.

We have almost 30 players now, so I'm going to submit the player list for approval tonight and plan to start playing tomorrow morning.  With that many players, I expect it to take a week to 10 days or so.  The Daisy Chain does move a little faster than the standard elephant swap and although you have 24 hours to make your move, you'll find that most people will take only 2 - 4 hours (that's because we are game addicts and can't stay away longer than that!).  You will always get a PM to tell you that you are needed, so you don't have to check the thread all the time.

Last call for players in the historical fiction swap.  I'm really proud of you guys....seven new players from the HF forum...You are well-represented!  Let me know if there is anyone else that we should wait for before I close it down tonight.

Is it still open?  I'll give it a shot, but I'm a newbie (my first ever game in the games forum just ended but there was no swapping, so I'm new to the swapping aspect)!

If you're still taking players, I'll join in! I'll wait until you post back before sending a credit, to be sure.

Be it known that I survived my first "turn" in Christa's game, and I didn't even mess it up or nothin'!

Shelley -- I too was impressed. You did us HF types proud. Now I'm just hoping I don't mess up!

Yay Shelley!!! You all have to play for me too because I'm banned from the game forum! Boo-Hoo!

I've done two games in the games forum, both years ago. In the 1st one I got in trouble because I forgot to buy DC and then had to hope and pray for the box of books to make it to the next person in line, which it did, thank God!, then after that debacle, I joined a craft swap. I have never been a crafty person, but that year, I was taught how to make these adorable Christmas ornaments out of fabric and I was sending them to everyone I know. I made my swap partner's ornaments and made a bookmark too, then sent it all off to the wrong person (someone I know in real life). By the time I figured it out, got it back from the person I sent it to, added a little something extra to make up for being so late, and  then sent it on to the correct person, the game had ended. I did remember to buy DC though, probably only because I already got into trouble for that!, and the DC said the package was delivered. I don't think I ever heard anything else about it until now.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm banned because the package didn't make it to the person before the game had ended or if the member said she never got the package. I can't remember who this member was to ask about it or even exactly which year this happened and the game mod doesn't know either. I'm not even sure what was supposed to happen if a member didn't get a package and I can't look at the rules now because this happened before the game forum was so organized and the posts in the games forum only go back to July of 2007. I do wish I knew who this member was so that I could at least ask about the package and send some credits or something if she really didn't get it. I'm thinking about making a post in the games forum to see if this member will pm me. I don't care about being banned from the games forum at all, and I deserve it!!, but knowing another member thinks I'm a craft scammer really bothers me!

It's pretty obvious that I'm not cut out for the game forum and it's best for everyone that I remain an outlaw!!  Plus, it's really the very best excuse for the next time Christa comes to the H/F forum begging for new gamers... ;-)

Anyway, I just wanted to let those of you who hadn't already heard know why I suddenly disappeared from the game. I didn't bail out on you, promise!

Valli - Ooooh, you are such a bad a$$!  Banned from the games forum!  I think it's kinda' cool in a James Dean sort of way.  (I'm sorry you can't play, though, I'm having fun!)

Shelley, I love that you can see the funny side in everything, lol. I always try to do the same. I think I should demand a blacklist icon to go with all of my other icons. Oh, OH, OH!!!!!!! I know what it could be! A rotten apple! It could go right next to my good apple. Oh, you have to admit that would be funny...and so appropriate! LOL!

Oh, I would so DIE if I logged in tomorrow to find that there was a little rotten apple icon next to my name! :-D

Valli -- I was afraid that you dropped out because you were too ashamed to join us in doing the limbo while riding white elephants or because Shelley really did twist your arm to the point that you were in too much pain to participate -- I'm glad to know that you're not playing simply because you're banned from the games forum. That is very, very funny!

Here's a new logo to add to your collection: Valli's New Logo

Darn! It doesn't show up! It says "Remote Linking Forbidden".

Deb, are you banned somewhere too? It's okay, you can tell me. I'll understand.

LOL!
