Historical Geology Author:Russell C. Hussey Preface to the Second Edition — This second edition of "Historical Geology" follows the same general plan of presentation that was used in the first edition, and the author has kept in mind the fact that the book will be used chiefly by students who are interested in the cultural aspect of the subject. It is very encouraging to see the large numb... more »ers of students who are studying elementary physical and historical geology, because both subjects contain a great deal of material that is both valuable and interesting. Increasing numbers of Americans are seeing more of our country every summer, and geology is the one subject that will help them to understand the face of the earth with its varied features.
The book has been simplified in several places by the removal of material that the students are seldom required to remember, and some new and better illustration have been added. A few generic names have been changed, and some paragraphs have been altered to take into account recent changes in the classification of vertebrates.
Everything that we can do to spread the gospel of geology to more people will not only strengthen the position of geology as a science but will also open up many new and delightful vistas for thousands of people.
