Hi all--I'm relatively new here--love this site by the way!
I have a few questions about how "holds" work...
When I put an individual book on my bookshelf on hold, does it keep its place in the FIFO list? Will it move up even though its on hold? Why I'm asking is that I have several books on my to-be-read shelf, some with quite a few copies already in the system. Does it make sense for me to add these to my bookshelf, but place them on hold until I've read them?
Also have a question about vacation hold...I'm going to be going out of town for a days. Is it possible to place my bookshelf on vacation hold, but not my wish list? I'll have access to a computer, but not my bookshelf. I have a couple different versions of the same book on my shelf both of which I'm either the first or second wisher. I don't really want to put these books on auto-request, because I don't want both of them--I just want the first one available.
And one final question...I have a wish list book that I'm just finishing up. I'd like to post and mail it before I leave on vacation, but am concerned if the first person on the wishlist takes too long to respond and the book rolls over, I may not have time to mail it to the next person on the list before I leave. If I place my account on vacation hold, will the book not roll over if the first person doesn't respond? That way, as long as there are still wishers when I get back from vacation I can take it off of hold and mail it out then.
Hope all of this makes sense!
1. No, it does not keep its place in FIFO if it's on your bookshelf on hold.
2. If you put books on your wishlist as auto-request and your shelf is on vacation hold, they will automatically be requested for you IF you have the credits. If you don't have the credits, you will be skipped in line (but you can keep your place).
3. Yes, that's how it works. If the first person times out and your account is on vacation hold, the request will not roll over until you return from vacation.
