I'm afraid the answer is NO, but I'm asking anyway. All I want to do is put a Hold on my whole Wish List. Not my Bookshelf or anything else--just my Wish List. But maybe there's an alternative way of doing what I need to do. I'm not going away or anything--I just don't want to spend any credits for a while, and a large proportion of my Wish List is on Auto-Request. I started going down the list switching book after book from Auto-Request Yes to Auto-Request No, but when I got to the B's, I screamed for mercy. It's just TOO TEDIOUS! Is there an easier way? Putting the whole thing on hold would solve it, if that's possible. I looked at all the options at the top of the WL until I was blue in the face, and I couldn't see a way to hold everything you've checked like there is on the Bookshelf. Convert checked & move them all to Reminder List? Then what? When you want them back, you have to go through your Reminder List, slowly, carefully, one book at a time, checking the ones that were on your WL, so you can send them back again? =sigh= I'm sorry to be grumpy about this, but I hardly ever look at *either* of those lists, so that wouldn't be easy, either. The Reminder List is full of books I might want, some day--some of which are currently available, some not--so the two lists resemble each other. Any ideas? --Fiona |

I don't think theres a way. You can put your bookshelf and wishlist on hold (full acount hold) but haven't heard anything else. Am I wrong? Last Edited on: 5/24/09 1:20 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

From what I've read the vacation hold option applies to both the bookshelf and WL as you've found out. If you take your WL books off WL you will lose your place in line. So putting the bookshelf on Hold is your best option, I think. It is tedious to take the Auto-request off - but I don't know another way to do it. Ruth |

Here's what I do (but first an assumption that your TBR pile is large enough that you have enough books to read). Once a week or so, I go through my wishlist (WL) looking for books that are getting close to being ordered. When I do find a book that is likely to be ordered soon I make a decision about whether this book belongs on my reminder list (RL) and not on my WL. Books that are being posted into the system at a clip of 10, 20, or 30 books per week get converted to my RL. Books that have only a short line get converted to my RL. For both classes of books I could get back to the front of the line in just a few weeks. So (for me) they belong on my RL unless my TBR pile is getting small. I have a shortcut method for finding books on my WL getting close to being ordered: 1) Get to the first page of your Wish List 2) Type Ctrl-F (this activates your browser's Find command) 3) Type "weeks" into the search window to scan for books that have an estimated number of weeks 4) Keep using Find-Next until you have found everything (or nothing) on this page, then go to the next page and repeat the procedure Over time the books that were converted to my RL become available in the system (no longer wishlisted). So I can look for deals in the Book Bazaar. I also have a shortcut for searching someone's bookshelf for matches that are on my reminder list. I wish you could as well because I have a lot of books in my TBR and would love to just get book orders for awhile. I have my account on hold now-not because I can't afford postage but because I close to 600 books. I get at least 1 WL offer a week. I just autorequested the out of print/hard to find books that rarely get posted. I have a lot of credits so I went with the whole account hold thing. While I was off hold, I put myself at the end of some WL lines-lines that move pretty steadily but are always WL. I moved some books to my RL that I know will eventually be available in PBS. Supposedly the "new WL" will have the option to hold just the WL-but they've been talking about that for 2 yrs now. |

If you are reluctant to move them to the reminder list because it is difficult to sift through it, you can put notes on the ones that you want to stand out in the reminder list. A small yellow square shows on the book image. |
