I sent a book to another member in Michigan yesterday & they received it today. Normally (I've sent to them 3x) they get it in 2-3 days MM but I guess taking it to a REALLY small PO pays at times. lol Not as much mail going out so they have room.

I LOVE it when that happens!  It's rare, but when you get the email letting you know that it was received a day after you mailed it, it's a great feeling.

I mail from a very large post office and I can't believe how long it takes sometimes for people to get my books!

I have noticed mm is very inconsistent. The first book that was mailed out to me hasn't gotten here yet, but books that were mailed out days afterwards are! Weird.

I thought you all might like to hear this story regarding the USPS. I own a business and use a payroll service. I had 2 employees who received live checks via email every pay period. My payroll envelope once went missing. The reason? My regular mail lady was on vacation for 2 weeks and the sub just didn't deliver it for some reason. It was sitting in the mail truck the whole time! I had to have new checks issued at my expense for the employees. The envelope showed up as soon as my regular lady came back. She had no idea why it wasn't delivered. I have no idea when I'm not receiving mail on time now. It's pretty bad and there's nothing that I can do about it. Government agency and all.  Just thought I'd share.

MM is weird. Every book I have printed postage from PBS and mailed from my mailbox has gotten to the person within 5 days even shipping from PA to AZ. Everything I take to the PO takes at least 10 days to even closer locations!

I had one go 3 states over mm in one day.  I was shocked when I saw it marked received.   I figure they must have had a plane going to that area and my book happened to make it there.

The books picked up the mail carrier might get to the area sorting station sooner than the ones at the PO.  I know when I lived on an island, all mail went off the island.  Even interisland mail was sent off the island to a sorting station.  So its seems reasonable that the mail carriers might bring the mail they pick up directly to the sorting station for the area. Or it gets loaded right on a truck for the sorting station. Whereas mail dropped of at the actual PO might not go until after the PO is closed or maybe even the next day if they do any presorting there.

MM is also sent on a space available basis.  So if they have say a truck going out to one area of the country and a plain going to another and another truck going a third place-some books might get loaded before others because of space.

The worst experience (longest mail-time) I had was when a book was sent to me Media Mail from a town in the next county -- only 13 miles away -- and it took 9 days. I've had First Class stuff arrive from across the COUNTRY  that took only 2-3 days. Go figure. I know rush hour traffic on the Schuylkill Expressway (near Philadelphia) is bad, but 9 days?! (LOL) I guess it had to go from her house EAST to Philadelphia and then WEST, past her town again, and further WEST to my house.

Sometimes they get sent the wrong way.  I have a book I sent using DC for a game. It's going from MD to CT.  Usually my books get to the East Coast states pretty quickly.  But this one was taking so long.  I checked the DC and they sent it to Illinois first.  Illinois is not on the way from MD to CT.

I think I have a winner- I ordered a book on 9/22- was sent from APO in Japan- reached NJ on 9/29. Thats 5500 miles in 1 week. It's taken longer for my books to go one state over sometimes!
