I tried three times to read this one and each time I cringed at the saccharine-sweetness of the little, perfect town. Perhaps I'm not the target audience for this one.

LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! I have heard so many good things about the Mitford series and I ordered it not quite knowing what to expect. The characters are all so real and loveable :) I am now working my way through the rest of the series!

Wonderful heartwarming book. It was so descriptive that it made me feel like I was actually in the small town of Mitford everytime I opened it, and I couldn't wait to read more each time I finally put it down at night. The characters are really personable. My favorite character is Dooley...love his interaction with all the townspeople. Took me a few chapters to really get into it, but I am so glad that I did...I highly, highly recommend this one!!!

There is some excellent writing in this book, at once lyrical and down-to-earth. The town and its people come alive on the pages, and made me wish that places like Mitford really did exist, the ultimate fantasy of a quiet, peaceful hometown. However, I didn't realize this was so decidedly Christian fiction. The religious overtones of practically every thought, conversation, and action are far too much for my tastes, and make most of the characters unbelievable or worse. So as much as I liked Father Tim, I don't think I'll be returning to Mitford.

I picked this book up on summer vacation at the beach. It was the only book on the rack at the pool house that looked good. Well I am glad I picked it up!!! I loved the book and couldn't wait to read more. I am a avid reader and I am excited to read more of the series.

Happy Reading!!!
