Home Town
Author: Tracy Kidder
"This book is rich with a sense of place, woven like a tapestry, animated by the lives within it, both past and present. It takes you back at once to the glorious innocence of childhood, and to the inevitable tragedies of adult life. I found Home Town at times hilarious, at times painful, and altogether spellbinding." If you've ever been to Northampton, or NoHo as we called it when I went to school at UMass, Amherst, this is an awesome book. Even if you haven't, it's still a great read!

I lived in Northampton for quite a few years and knew some of the "characters" in this book. It made for quite an interesting read. I enjoyed Kidder's view of Noho.

I enjoyed this book, but only because my mother-in-law grew up there and we pass through the towns of Northampton and Florence often. This book is more like a series of snapshots into the lives of several town residents - there's no one story, other than one part that centers around a police officer from childhood throughout his career on the force. I kept expecting something to "tie it all together", but this really isn't the type of book that has one definitive plot or story line. Interesting read if you have a connection to this or some other similar small town.
