This magazine has found its way into our family's life. Our first issue came last Thursday and I am terribly impressed with the well crafted articles and beautiful photos and graphics. The young man who founded Homeschool Sports Insider magazine is a homeschool graduate himself. You may view a copy online at the following address:

My homeschooled daughter is a competitive swimmer, and we discovered this magazine online a little while ago. I've been thinking of subscribing to the print edition--I'm impressed with the articles and interviews I found on their website. |

I figure the $20 I invest will help keep the magazine in business. The quality of the paper and graphics of HSInsider is better than Splash or Swimming World. My two sons are swimmers, too; and the magazine found us! My older son is the swimmer featured in the winter edition. I had heard of the Miami Dolphins player Jason Taylor, but I didn't know he is the one our family should thank for trailblazing the NCAA for homeschooled students. Where does your daughter swim?

Ooh! I feel like I've met a celebrity! My daughter and I read the article about your son, and were very impressed with his answers. I forwarded the article to some homeschool swimmers that we know. Tell your son congratulations! My daughter has been swimming for a local YMCA team. (Eight winter seasons so far!) Next year, she'll be in the ninth grade (and still homeschooling), so we're looking into ways she can swim for a high school team. (We'll stick with the YMCA team, too--but there are some high school meets that she'd really like to attend.) Ohio is not one of the 18 states with "equal access" laws (allowing homeschoolers to participate in activities), so I'm going to have to meet with my superintendent to see what we can work out. (I have a friend who moved to Florida, where players like Jason Taylor and Tim Tebow have set good precedents for homeschoolers. Her homeschooled son went to the high school state meet the past two years with his local high school team.) Thanks for the recommendation. Maybe I'll make the magazine a birthday gift for my daughter. |
