I'm usually more of a fantasy romance or historical romance person - but I really enjoyed this book and I really like this author...she has a way of making "real" people very engaging...no Dukes, Medieval Warlords, or time travel romance here...but a very easy character to get behind!

SYNOPSIS from the BACK COVER: As a girl, Honey Moon dreams of becoming a movie star...she's a scrappy little know-it-all, but she's ill prepared to become the most famous (or infamous) child star in America. She's going to drive the men in her life crazy!

An epic romance with an unlikely heroine, all for the love of a roller coaster. Who doesn't love roller coasters?

Not my favorite of her books, but that had more to do with personal taste than anything else. I like her writing and characters, though this one spanned a lot of years in a relatively short space.

I usually love all of SEP's books...but have found two that I really disliked. This book and Hot Shot. I thought I could separate it from her contemporary versus older books, but one of my fave SEP's is Imagine which is one of her older ones. Anyway - thought I would give my 2 cents!

I have read some negative reviews of this book but I couldn't disagree more. Maybe if you are looking for a light romantic comedy and get intense drama instead - you might be disappointed. This might be my favorite SEP novel right alongside Dream A Little Dream. I laughed and I cried and I sure couldn't put it down once I started. Once you pick up this book, if you are anything like me, you will get nothing else done until it is finished. It was an amazing ride!

Young Honey Jane Moon goes from living with her aunt and uncle at a dilapidated amusement park in South Carolina, to being the famous child actress nearly overnight. She is several years older than the teenager that she plays on her popular TV show. There are two men on the show. Dash Coogan is a surly cowboy who plays her father. Eric Dillon is a Hollywood bad boy who has no time for a teenage girl with a crush. Honey's life of ups and downs ends up being tied to both of her co-stars.

This is not Susan Elizabeth Phillips usual story, but I loved it anyway. When I first read this book nearly 20 years ago, I was prepared for SEP's trademark humor and banter. You don't get that with this book. It is a contemporary romance that has more of a women's fiction feel to it. The characters have depth to them. They are all flawed which makes them feel real. This book is also a tearjerker...so be prepared with lots of kleenex.

I decided to listen to the audiobook this time around and I'm glad I did. Nicole Poole's narration was fantastic. Each character had a distinct voice. My rating: 5 Stars.

As always, Phillips has written a real page-turner. The reader is swept along in this tale of a orphaned girl who has the drive to make it but doesn't have the self knowledge of who to turn to make a family.

The book I have has a white cover with gold writing. Same book, different cover from the one shown here.
