Just curious, since the posting wl books to a friend seems to fall FIFO instead, are you cancelling it or honoring it (even though it's a pbs thing) and sending it to the person who accepted the request?

I would still honor it.  It is not the FIFO members fault that you could not post it to the WL and they might be just as appreciative as your friend.

I've mailed a few and cancelled a few.

Depends on what arrangement I have with the person I am trying to post it to. If they are expecting the books to get posted to them, then I need to cancel the glitch posting. If they are not expecting the books, then it doesn't matter that it didn't go to them.

I post enough books to FIFO that I don't feel guilty about directing certain ones to friends, and even canceling the mistake post if I need to.

I'm not one of those people that feels like I need to honor PBS's mistake in all cases no matter the circumstances. Just, no.

Is there a grace period for canceling because of this problem?

I feel like we should have something (Can't sort by hold, posting to wl issues, etc)

(Forgot to add, I've been honoring it because it isn't the fault of another member and I feel bad to cancel on someone)

I've been canceling them because in each case, the person who I was supposed to be posting it to was expecting it. So someone was going to be disappointed either way, the intended recipient or the FIFO person who it accidentally got offered to. When canceling I apologized to the person who accidentally got offered it and made them aware that it was because there was a problem with the PBS system.

I don't feel good about it but like I said, there was always someone who was going to be disappointed and in the case of one shipment, it was 6 books going to one person or six singles being sent out. It was a no-brainer to have to cancel and hope that the person who I sent the 6 books to will honor her agreement to buddy me the 5 credits when she gets the shipment.

So if we cancel, is it a mark against us.

Another question..it sounds like you pm friendz and say you're going to be posting to them? Is that something I should be doing?

Michele, I have no idea if it's a mark against us if we cancel but it better not be, given these instances are arising from a PBS system generated problem. However, as TPTB still don't seem to have officially acknowledged this even is a problem, who knows?

In my case, I wasn't mailing books to friends, I had posted books into the system and saw that the other members had other books on their wishlist that I also had available. So I sent them a personal message letting them know and asking if they wanted the other books and both agreed, so they knew they were supposed to be posted to them.

Michele - I don't think it counts against us. I've canceled books for many reasons - sometimes I'll order a book for my grandchildren (they'll ask for several) and after I've ordered one, I'll go on to the next book and find that that person has the book I've already ordered and another one I want, so I'll cancel the first order, sometimes books get posted accidently and have to be canceled. Like others above I posted several to people who'd ordered books from me and found that I had other books on their WL and tried to post to them and it went FIFO, so had to cancel (sometimes a couple of times as I thought maybe I'd done something wrong before I realized it was a PBS glitch). I've even had PBS cancel when I couldn't.

If I've promised the book to someone I'll cancel the FIFO. Hope they get it fixed soon. Pat

If the site were ever to look into your account for too many cancelled transactions, they would be able to see, or you could explain, that you were cancelling an error and that would not count against you for anything. We are allowed to fix our (or the site's) mistakes.

PBS made a cancel button so orders can be cancelled. It does not go against your account in any way.

it sounds like you pm friendz and say you're going to be posting to them? Is that something I should be doing?

It's something you can do. I have a few people that I trade WL books with outside of games, with some people that I have a lot of overlap with. Soemtimes they have sent me a PM that says something like "Hi, we have a lot of overlap on our Wish Lists. Want to see if we can trade?"

Now, some people will be offended because that's not how they think that PBS "ought" to work.

But if you have a lot of WL overlap with other members, and they have a similar PBS philosophy, then it can work well for both people.

Sara: I don't have anything agaist posting things to a friends WL, but direct trades of WL books is generally not permitted. According to rule #5 in the Bazaar,

No swapping books-for-books unless the swap is between two "Boxers" (Boxers = subscribers to Box-O-Books). For example, posting "I will send you this book if you will send me that book" or "I will send any three books from my bookshelf for this one book I want" is not permitted unless both members are Boxers. If you are a Boxer, why not peek into other Boxers' bookshelves from the Box-O-Books area to see if books you want are available? You can save a lot of postage and credits this way!

I don't know that it makes a difference if it's set up strictly via PM without technically vectoring through the Bazaar or not, but it seems like a bit risky.

I would not unless the friend was previously aware of  ( and expecting the posting) to their list.

Renee, I post books to them and they post books to me, so all the trades are done with credits officially thru the site.

I think that particular rule in the Bazaar mostly has to do with people offering to make bookshelf trades with "strangers" using the forum to post, and without the currency of credits involved. (Just mail me 3 books and I will mail you 3 books).

I don't think going to look at a particular Friend's WL and posting a book or 2 to them, and then they look at mine and post a book or 2 to me, is against any rules that I know of.

And I just realized because I've been offered and canceled (on the same book twice) that if  another copy was posted, I missed out on it because I accepted the book already and had to wait for the person to cancel :-(
