In My Hood 3 was my least favorite of them all. I loved In My Hood, thought In My Hood 2 was decent with some problems, and this one just didn't grab me at all. This is definitely a case where there should have been just one book with no sequel/series added to it.
So many books in this genre talk about how "real" they are and this is anything but. I'll try to think of a few examples but I may have tried to block it all from my mind. I don't want to add any spoilers so I'll not go into detail.
When Leroy is in the hospital something..... let's just say odd... happens. The doctor charged with Leroy's care makes a speech to the press that isn't exactly true. Yet nothing is ever said about it that makes it even seem like it *could be* something that really would happen. In the end the why of it is explained but that doesn't make it any easier to believe. Then, the whole reasoning behind what the doctor says is out of this world. We're supposed to find it realistic than a man can go into a hospital room every day for weeks without the mans guards, the police, etc. seeing? Yet on and on we heard about how tight the security was. Things didn't add up.
I don't know, it's just not all that good. It seemed like Endy got stuck at times and instead of really working through it she just put down whatever came to mind. That makes for a bland book IMO. Endy has talent and that's obvious to me after reading three of her books but I'd definitely say that sequels aren't her thing.
There are so many characters that you get lost trying to keep up. And it's all too easy - Valencia just has everything going for her. Need to throw a blade into a guys neck from behind a building aroudn the corner? No problemo - never misses.
Like I said before, it has similiarities to watching an Arnold movie. And for books that are supposed to be so real, that just doesn't work for me.
