This book has been re-released-- it was originally published in 1999, so while it was an interesting read, it is not a new 2008 book.

This was a fun read! I actually read the entire book on the same day it arrived from PBS. A good historical romance with some surprises. If you love horses and history thrown together with love, then this book will not disappoint.

A romance version with a female "horse whisperer" who turns her talents to "child whisperer". An enjoyable read.

Excellent, well-crafted love story. The characters are expertly drawn and the tale is one you can't put down until the end. This is the second in the Calhoun Trilogy. The wonderful main characters from the first book in the series, "The Charm School," also appear in intermittently in this book. I loved it.

I've just started reading Susan Wiggs books and am starting with her first book and working forward. I can see an improvement already in writing technique and am enjoying her books so far. This is the 3rd book I've read and it proved itself worthy of my eager anticipation of what would happen next. I am looking forward to working through all of her books because I see great potential.

It falls in the same category as the Horse Whisperer, but definitely a different novel/story line.
At one point I thought things were going too smooth...so much book left... I didn't see the twist it took. So cool! I liked the way it took me by surprise.
It was a quick read.

Wonderful WONDERFUL book. I loved the mysterious woman aspect and the fact that she feels what the animals and horses are feeling. It's forbidden love because she is the daughter of a slave who died during child birth. I would recommend this book to anybody!!

This is almost as good as the first one. I really liked Eliza's character (she's a cross between something from Dr. Dolittle and Sound of Music). I loved how she doesn't let anyone change her and she stood up for herself. Hunter's kids and Eliza made the book for me. Hunter was neither here or there. He was just okay. There were some parts in the middle that was a bit slow but well worth the read.
