I just finished reading The Host by Stephanie Meyers.  It is so different from her Twilight series, but I really liked it.  I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I am wondering how everyone thinks it compares to Twilight?  Better, worse or just different?

Actually Stephenie said she didn't write Twilight for teens...she wrote it based on a dream...it was her editor/agent that decided to market it to teens!

With the very end, I think she does set it up for another book in the series.  How can she not?

I'd love to see more of these characters in the future.  I loved the book.  The writing style was similar to the Twilight books, but the similarity ended there.  I guess I don't really see the two as being written for such different audiences though.  Bella is 18 I believe in the last couple of Twilight books, and the human in The Host is 21.  Both "young adults."  I can see where the Twilight books may appeal a little more to the high school crowd, since the characters are in high school, but I didn't find The Host more mature.

I would LOVE to read another book taking place after The Host (or perhaps concurrently, told from the point of view of Burnes). I just loved this book. I like the Twilight series more, though. :)

I saw a wonderful interview with Stephenie Meyer and she says she does not write for particular age groups. She says a good book is a good book--good for anyone, any age. I agree. I am, after all, not a teenager and I love YA stuff and kids' picture books and grown-up stuff... A good book IS a good book, regardless of the age of the characters therein.

Well I finished day before yesterday.  I was leery of reading it because I love the Twilight series so much and thought their was no way it could compete.  I started it and for about the first 4 chapters was bemoaning the fact that I had been right, then I hit the part where she begins her search and BAM  the book became wonderful  and I couldn't put it down.  I loved it!  I hope we have more for this series.  I would love to find out about Burns or even others in the group

I just finished this book 2 days ago and I loved it! I really wasn't sure I was going to because while I have really enjoyed reading Twilight and the other books in the series, I was getting tired of the "whiney teens" that somebody else has mentioned.  The Host did start out a little slow for me and I didn't love the characters right off but then I was hooked. It is a beautiful story and I would love another book with these characters or at least set in the same world.

I loved The Host. I haven't heard if it is going to be a series or not, but I thought it was similar to the way The Giver series was written. What other books does it make you think of?

I loved both equally.  I think "The Host" is just different.
