I am new to the writing of Edmund White. He is one of the long time greats still unknown to many. His research is deep and his insights bring a new view to the ignored histories of the love that dare not mention its name. This novel is set in NYC.At the time of the famous Wilde trials were playing out in UK. There is a bit of name dropping as White through his characters introduces authors in many of the circles Wilde frequented. There was a lot going on besides Wilde & Lord Douglas in same sex attraction under the radar life. In the cities as usual the night life was sparkling. The sad thing about secrets is they never are never really unknown just ignored life. The ignored have a way of bursting on to the scene in ways that cause tears & scars. This story is about survival under treat.
