This is a short story collection set in the same god infested universe of the Chosen of the Changeling series. Its about Fool Wolf, one of the Mang nomads, and potentially the greatest shaman of his people in centuries. Pity the god that rides him asks for torture and murder for her services... No wonder Fool Wolf makes a living as a dice cheat, etc.

The stories are picaresque moving beyond the great river and the empire of Nhol (in fact its set about 5 years after Nhol has collapsed), visiting places that were only on the map or mentioned in the books.

I liked it. For the characters, the settings and ideas. While I was reading it I was struck by its similarities to the pulp fantasies (Conan, Elric, etc.) and didn't realize the stories were a tribute to them until I read the introduction. Also, Keyes is fairly subtle in the stories and doesn't reveal a few things until near the end.
