The author of this book, Mary Lavin, was born in Massachusetts, but mvoed to Ireland as a child. This book takes place in Ireland and is the story of a wealthy property owner who has only daughters and is waiting for the birth of a grandson to be his heir. His youngest daughter gives birth to a son and the boy's father, a spendthrift, dies at a young age. This is the story of the boy, Gabriel and his life among the Irish women in his life...mother and aunts, all living in the same house. It's an easy read and I did like the look into the past.
