Vanessa thought she had found a sanctuary with the Venner family, a place where she could forget the nightmares of the past. there were James, a simple, bluff country squire, kindly Mrs. Venner, their daughter Mary and brillian young Tarquin, whom Banessa was to coach on the violin. Aside from Tarquin's genius, the BVenners seemed utterly, almost absurdly, mormal, and the moors of Devon were filled with peace and quiet. \\And nearby there was Roderik Egan. But things are rarely what they seem. For all their beauty, the moors turned out to be treacherous and there was something profoundly sinister about the Venners. Not peace, but fear and horror, came to Vannessa in the night and she found herself inexorably drawn toward madness and death while Tarquin fiddled a Danse Macabre.
