How do you accidently post a WL book ???      Yesterday , I got a WL offer  ,I accepted and this morning it was cancelled. The reason?  they said it was an accident,  that they didnt actually have the book. ( sorry ,hope you get the book soon)

Isn't there a way that books can be on your shelf but on hold, and if you do something weird they can be posted?  I'm guessing the person did not just post that book but it had been on hold and it accidentally came of hold.

Or something like that.

OR, they could easily thouhgt they had the book but now it's lost, gone, borrowed, etc.etc.

On my ipad screen the post button is right above the wish list+ button and both are small. If I don't aim right I would accidentally hit the post button. But even doing that I think I could still back out of the transaction because the system goes to the standard post page. So you would have to not be paying attention for it to happen.

I've done that (although I had the book), but hit the wrong button and it got posted.  Felt really bad.  I also accidently turned down a book when I used my Ipad to try to accept a book, and hit the 'don't want it' button, and had to go to the back of the line.  However, how you can post a book when you don' t even have it is a little harder to understand, as I post my books from the ISBN in the book.  Good luck in getting the book. The reason?  they said it was an accident,  that they didnt actually have the book.

The last time that happened to me, the guy said he had loaded up a file with a bunch of ISBNs and it must have been entered wrong.  It happens.

Or they had it and can't find it. Maybe they forgot that Aunt Marg or BFF Sue borrowed the book.

Have heard this one before mentioned in the forums so guess that though rare, it's not impossible.

Or maybe they carelessly posted a TBR book and didn't want to fess up. Thinking it sounded less stupid to say "OOps I made a boo boo" instead of saying "I wasn't paying attention and posted a book I didn't intend to".

I just did this last week, but I do have the book--just haven't read it yet.  I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and somehow accidently posted the book.  I figure I must have been half asleep to geet all the way through the posting process without realizing what I was doing, but I'm proof that it can happen.  As soon as I realized what I had done, I sent the requestor an e-mail with an appology, and let her know that as soon as she accepted it, I'd cancel so that she'd go back to the front of the WL line quickly.  I know I'll be more careful in the future--rather than just clicking away!

I have used the phone app when I went to the friend of library sale or dollar store and accidentally posted a book I ended up not purchasing.  It can happen if someone is distracted.

I find that trying to do anything on a small touch screen means I end up doing something I don't want.

I am guilty of having that happen to me 6 months or more ago.  What happened was I used the mobile app on my phone, instead of adding it to my TBR it posted the book.  Felt terrible!  Haven't used the app since.....

Ugh I just did it!  I confused my book titles and posted the wrong one from my TBR. Now it's been requested.  My library has it so it's not a big deal except I don't know if it's postable.

eta: I forgot it wasn't a WL book and I just checked, not postable.

I did that once, my wife left a pile of books, but wasn't around to confirm they were up for grabs, I wanted to post them "on hold" and it didn't work out that way.

I've done it. I had books on my tower on hold and when I took tower off hold, they got posted by mistake. Or have accidentally clicked wrong box and posted and didn't realize it until too late. Accidents do happen.

I've also done this before.  I had it added to my TBR and it was marked as X'd on my bookshelf.  I went away for a few weeks so I turned my bookshelf off so that I wouldn't receive orders while I was gone.  When I came back, I turned my bookshelf back on and wouldn't you know, it posted the WL book that had been X'd!!!  I felt bad and had to PM the person that I couldn't send it to them.  It's actually pretty easy to do, unfortunately.

I know, I wish there was a way to post books that would immediately go to HOLD so that you could remember to read them first and post them

I had a stack of books to post, and one I hadn't read was sitting on my desk.  Ended up posting that one too.  Realized it as I was putting them in the swap shelf, but of course, it was  WL book so I had to wait for them to accept to decline.  No way I could get it read in time either.

Was rather irritated at myself about it.
