Could someone explain to me?

Since I'm new to this site I would like to use an icon pic for my name.

Amanda,

I've just googled a particular kind of avatar I like and save it to my desktop.  Once doing that you can go under settings and upload it directly from your desktop.  Hope that helps!

If you have trouble uploading your picture:  Sometimes people have trouble with the picture being too large.  It's not usually about the file size, either.  There's a pixel limit, too.  It's easiest if you have a square picture and Microsoft Paint.  Open the file with Paint and find Image in the toolbar.  Select Attributes, switch the Units to Pixels, and make sure the file is 75x75.  Make sure you save it that way and it should upload just fine.

Paint is the WORST program EVER. Ugh. If you want a decent program to edit, resize & such download the trial for Adobe CS2. You can find it by searching on Yahoo or Google.

Ah, come on, Erin!  The WORST program EVER???!!!  That's pretty harsh.  LOL  It's not very intuitive, but it gets many jobs done for me that I am unable to do otherwise, and it's free.  Sure there are easier and more versatile programs out there, but I use Paint all the time, so I feel a bit protective of this little program that helps me out so much.  *grin*

Amanda, there is a member here nicknamed mannythepoolshark, and her profile has tutorials about avatars and blinkies and they have helped a lot of new members.  There's a lot of information there to help out those unfamiliar with posting these to their ID or their signature line.  Here's her profile link:  http://mannythepoolshark.paperbackswap.com/profile/

(Click on her notebook entries, the tutorials start with the third entry.)

Personally, I like xnview. It's free and has a lot of features, including resizing and red-eye reduction for photos.

I use my camera software to resize. I just import the files.
