I originally bought this book for my kids when they went off to college. They ended up each wanting their own copy and then when I tried the recipes I ended up buying my own copy. For example the stir fried chicken recipe is the best of any Oriental stirfry I have every come across. Also a great section on setting up your first pantry. They also encourage creativity with "Make it Your Own" suggestions using alternative ingredients.
This cookbook is perfect for beginning cooks, college students, anyone who knows little about cooking. I love the layout of the book: the pages are not crammed with info, which can turn people off from exploring a cookbook. Instead there are excellent pictures, diagrams and tutorials on things like how to hold knife, prep veggies, caramelize onions, why you should let a roast rest before slicing. There are copious tips and shopping notes. And the recipes are great!
