For swap if the release date is a future date. For example, I have a wishlisted book that shows a release date of 10/1/07...and it is being sent to me already. How can that be possible? Do books get out prior to the release date? |

It could be an ARC (Advanced Readers Copy) which should not be swapped here. Some members get these from various places and post them here even though they are not allowed to be posted for credits. When you get the book, check it VERY closely and see if somewhere it says on it, Advanced Readers Copy, or Uncorrected proof. It should be on the outside cover somewhere. If it is, then you need to mark the book as being received with a problem. Diane

sometimes :) It's possible that you'll be getting an ARC, or that you're getting it from a bookseller (we get new releases a week or so before they can be put on the shelves). What is it? I can check our distributor's database and see if the release date moved up and didn't get changed here.

Definitely check the book. A few weeks ago a book got posted to me that I knew wasn't coming out for 2 more weeks. I PM'd the sender to question her on it, and she admited it was an ARC. She told me that others didn't mind getting them, so she kept posting them. I copied and pasted the rules on not being able to post ARC's and she got very upset with me - telling me I did not need to reminder her of the rules -- obviously I did! I had her cancel the order and waited until it was released. |

Sam: I just PM'd you. I put the link to the book, but I'm not sure that is how it is going to come over. You may have to copy and paste. Thanks. |

Sometimes you can a buy book before the actual publish date. I bought Lisa Jacksons "Sorceress" three weeks before the date.

I have brought book before the release date in the airport. I got the paperback of Water for Elephants three weeks before in came out. |

Yes, a buddy bought JoAnna Carls' new book from a bookstore that already had a big display of the book before the publishing date. She then sent it on to me. We think some overzealous or not quite careful employee put the display up, but of course we really don't know! |

Definitely, I saw a Denise Swanson Mystery on sale at B&N a full month before the release date. It is definitely possible that you are getting the book, not an ARC. You'll know because it usually is marked Advanced Reader Copy or ARC on the front cover.

I notice that Amazon releases certain books and audiobooks after they are available in regular stores and PBS' dates tend to correspond with Amazon's. For instance, I recently pre-ordered an unabridged version of "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" from Amazon and saw it in the bookstores a month before it was shipped to me. There is a store near my house (name withheld to protect the not-so-innocent!) that regularly puts out new mmps a little bit before the actual release date. I think it's a case of lazy employees, but I know if the latest "whatever" book is coming out soon and I'm dying to have it that I should check that store. I think in at least one case I bought a book, read it, posted it and sent it before its official release date. So this isn't necessary a red flag that it's an ARC. yep.. it was put out before the release date... the date on AZ is the correct date... it ususally matches our distributor's date, which means it's the date of release by the publishers. Books that are out in stores before the release date really shouldn't be, cause that's unfair to those of us that comply or that don't get the books until that day. However, there have been instances of books comingout earlier ar laters and the date just not changed in the databases....chances are some one at a store got the package, didn't look at the release date and just shelved all the books included. An easy mistake especially in larger stores with many employess that are "in the business".

Borders usually puts out books about a week early. But of course for the one book that I really wanted to read (I kept checking their website!), the book won't be put out until tomorrow, which is the real release date! |
