Hi,  I have been wondering how you can get a book isbn in the system without listing a book.  I have several books that I wanted to put on my wishlist but they are not in the system.  These are not some newly released books. They are old books and reprints. (I am thinking of a particular author)  Is there a way to put the book in the system so that I can wishlist it?

Thanks for any information, Megan

Search for the ISBN--even if there isn't currently a book in the system it should come up.  (Make sure searching All Books).

If it still doesn't, it isn't in the database at all, scroll all the way down to the fine print at the bottom of any page.  There is a link there "Edit Book Data".  You can try submitting the ISBN there and putting in the information. It may take a few days for it to get approved, but then you can WL it.

To add to Kayote's sage advice, try searching by both the 13-digit and 10-digit ISBN, if you have it --sometimes things come up under one and not the other, particularly with older titles.

Cheers,

make sure you are searching "all books" and not just "posted books"

If they are old books without ISBNs they would never show up--each time someone lists a non-ISBN book, PBS assigns a unique ISBN to it, because without an ISBN they have no way of knowing which version it might be--thus, each is unique. You'd be best off searching for those books under the title and author's name. But I'm not sure how you could wishlist them or even if you can.

Megan, I had the same problem with 12 books. Someone told me how to do it and now I only have 2 out of the twelve not on my wish list. Go to Amazon and look the book up by title or author then find the ISBN of this book and then go back to paperback and do a search on the ISBN you found. In 10 cases it came up and I was able to wishlist it. The other 2 were not on Amazon. Good luck. You must do the search from the advanced search page, it won't work from anywhere else. If you have a problem PM me and I will try to help with it. I was so thrilled with the person who listed this info that I would like to help others with it.

Thank you to everyone for the information.  Elaine, Thank you for telling me how to search for the books. I have several books wishlisted now.   And to everyone who was wondering, yes, I was looking at "All books" not just posted ones. :)

           Thank you,  Megan
