I'm fairly new at at this site, and I've noticed a number of active people with huge trade histories here and at the other book swap site I joined.  I'm curious as to how fast you go through these books?  How many books do you read in a year on average?

I've tracked the books I read for the last 10 years or so, and I read an average of about 30 books a year.

Depending on the length of a book (I am a fast reader though) I read 2-4 a week. I am a single mom and am a night owl so this is my retreat. Not always feeling too hot in the am when I have to go to work after reading all night. LOL

Hmm..good question.   Some weeks I can read 3-4.  Others I might only be able to sqeeze in 1.  I too read alot in the evening when the kids are in bed.  I have to have a book going at all times, it my sanity were talking about! :)

Really depends on what's going on during that year but so far this year I've read 47.

it usually depends on what is going on. on a good week i can read 4 to 5. a bad week 1 or 2. i keep a book in my purse at all times. if im stuck at the red light or waiting for the train to pass, i pull out my book and read.

Y'all put me to shame.  I can read books that quickly (I read the last Harry Potty in less than 24 hours), but seldomly give myself the luxary of that much reading time.  I generally have 2 books going at once -- an audio book in the car for my daily commute (about 25 minutes each way) and a regular book at home to read when I go to bed.  But I generally only read for 30-45 minutes in the evening and more on the weekend.

Wow -- no wonder you have such deep trading histories.  :-)

I read quickly and often.  Cooking, vacuuming, waiting to pick DS up at school.  DH likes this in some ways as I tend to cut down on gas by just not going anywhere and sitting in the car and reading.  And DS's school is next door to the library, so it's easy to run all my errands for the day and just head for there for an hour or two before pick up.

And this is how I'm justifying the 111 books that I've read so far this year.  Add in the fact that I've gotten brutal with my TBR pile (each book has 50 pages to impress me or it's GONE) and you begin to understand why my name occasionally pops up on the Top 50 list.

To answer the original question, for the last two years, I've read around 200 books.  This year, that number seems completely doable.

Between 140 and 170 books a year. I started counting three years ago. Glad I'm not the only one that does that!

I've been keeping track and so far for the year I've read about 40 books.  So reading 100 books in a year is doable depending on how much time I have to read and if I go on vacations and take a bunch of  books with me.  On a trip to Mexico (hubby was "working") I read 5 books in 3 days.

I read 2-3 books a week, mainly because I'm on public transportation for a total of 2 1/2 hours a day on days that I work.  I spend that time reading, plus a few hours on weekends.  However, I must admit I don't read books as fast as I acquire them--I have one heck of a TBR pile right now!

I don't know how many I've read so far this year.  When I asked my hubby as I was reading the forum, his answer was "too many".  I know that there are 11 in my TBR pile, and I have 10 that I just ordered from another source, as well as 5 that are being sent through this site....

I can't wait for summer vacation, that always means more time to be a bookworm!

Sometimes I read a book or more a day, and then there are some books that take several days (usually thick, densely footnoted nonfiction I really want to retain). On average I probably read four or five books a week.

Depending on what else is going on in my life, I usually read between 270 and 300 books a year. I only started keeping track several years ago. I know I read much more than that when I was younger and a stay-at-home mom.

Wow, I am so slooooowwwww. i'm lucky if I can get 1 read a week.  More if they are the skinny little cozy mysteries. I'm some how always drawn to the huge tomes. i have to fit reading in. When I try to read at night I fall asleep :-( itry to read at the dog park but the little buggers keep distracting me!

I read about 100 books a year, depending on how busy I am.  But I'm also a terribly picky reader.  With the limited time I have to read, I don't want to spend it reading something that's not working for me.  So if a book isn't thrilling me in the first 50-100 pages, I don't bother finishing it.  I probably have at least one or two "duds" for every book that I finish.

Happily, most people aren't as picky as I am - just because I don't like a book doesn't mean that there aren't PBS members who will love it!

Before kids, it was much more, like 75 books a year.  Now I am lucky if I squeeze in 25!  I also listen to a lot of podcasts, though, when I could be reading....
