I was just curious as to how many of you have so many books in your TBR pile that you will never in this lifetime be able to read them all.  I ask because that's me.  I have over 1,000 books waiting to be read (no, I am not kidding!), and I can't manage to stop buying more, thanks to PBS mostly LOL.  I like to read books in series, so that accounts for a lot of the books, but still, I am so out of control it's not even funny.  Even if I read 80 books a year, which is about normal for me, and I never ever bought another book (not happening), it would still take me over 12 years to read what I have!!!!  That is a very sobering thought indeed.

Anyway, I was just wondering how you all manage your TBR's?  I have decided that there IS such a thing as having too many books to decide from.  I mean really...  do I choose fiction, non-fiction, one in a series, maybe start a new series, maybe try a new author, maybe start that 1,000 page book that I keep putting off..  do I read romance, mystery, paranormal, chick lit, and so on and so on and so on....  makes my head hurt LOL..

I have at least 120 sitting in my living room waiting to be read.  I have 4 on the way from PBS and 21 coming from bookcloseouts.com that I bought when they had their 50% off on fiction around Thanksgiving.  When I joined PBS last June I had 17 on my TBR and thought that was a lot. LOL

Kim, how do you read 80 books a year?  I'm lucky if I can read 4-5 a month.

Kim, you just described me to a "T"! I have about 1,000 on my TBR list as well, and can't seem to stop ordering and buying either. I look around annd think the same thing...."this is so out of control it isn't funny".. I am quickly running out of room for books.

Sorry I can't help you, but I sure can relate!

I have about 50 on my TBR here and about 20 more on my home shelves. Also have about 20 WLed. My Reminder List is well over 200. This is more than enough for me to handle.

A thousand would be far to daunting for me.

Good Luck

I only have four books in my TBR pile, and all are wishlisted.  I refuse to store more books, which is why I chose to join PBS!  My favorite feature is the reminder list, which in my case grows longer every time I visit this site.  If my library doesn't have it, then I will wish it!

Keep : )

I"m addict as well.  MT TBR is about 500.  I probably have 50+ WL books sitting here waiting to read and posted.  I need to put my account on hold again to hold off any WL offers until I read some of these.  I had finally gotten the WL TBRS down to a reasonable level while making my cross country move.  But my account was on hold so long that I had over 30 WL offers when I took it off hold. Of couse I accepted them all.  I'm still getting at least 2 WL offers a week.  I need to go back on hold.  I'm not getting many shelf orders anyway.  All the books I'm sending out are virtual box books or WL books.  I just ordered 10 books from another trading site because I had a lot of credits built up over there and I didn't like having that many.  I wanted to spend some before I sent out more books over there.  It's not a site I would feel comfortable selling credits on like I would with PBS.  I also ordered 10 books from the Ellorascave sale.  I'm hopeless. I've been fighting the urge to go to the local libraries to check out the sale shelves.  I live where 3 towns kind of merge and so have 2 really good libraries near me.  They both have a constant flow of book donations for sale.  But I'm fighting the urge to go look.  DH has been complaining about the books piling up. I volunteered to stop cooking and doing housework and just devoting all my time to reading but he didn't like that idea either.

My RL is close to 700. But I have a lot of TBR books on there.  Sometimes I'll post a book I haven't read yet if it has a lot of copies posted.  So it can work it's way up FIFO. On the off chance it gets ordered or I get a BOB offer-I'll just read it quickly.  But that hasn't happened yet. I just make sure to only have 1 or 2 like that posted at a time.  I will probably never order 90% of my RL books.  But I put them on there in case I'm looking at a deal or a BOB offer.  I'm thinking about tagging them and deleting them all before the new combined lists come out.  But that seems like too much work.

I have 373 listed on my TBR pile here on PBS, but there are probably a couple hundred more laying around I haven't added.

78 on my actual TBR list here, and many more on the mental list I keep whenever I set foot in a library or bookstore... or anywhere outside my house.

I have 83 books on my tbr, 53 wished, and 59 on my reminder list, it is addicting, my lists are constantly growing! I tend to read three books at a time, so I work through them fairly quickly.

I thought I was bad, but I only have 7 so far in my TBR list. I usually read more than one book at a time, unless they are the same type of book (fantasy, biography, etc... which of course they all are at them moment.) I notice tho, that my reminder list keeps growing... :-)

Donna, 80 books a year is only an average, as I sometimes only have time to read three or four per month.  So far this year I have read 87, and I am still trying to cram in as many as possible before the end of the year.  Not sure why, just a game I play in my head I guess LOL.

I have 493 books in the TBR pile and I too still keep buying books.  Usually, they are new releases, but with me being so addicted to Pogo I can't seem to read as much as I used to.

I am soooo glad I am not the only one addicted to this site and have hundreds of books lined up to read!  Now if I could stop checking the status of my WL 12 times a day, I might actually get something read.

I have 200+ books in my TBR pile.  I finally decided I need a system for reading them.   So I am reading only the books that are wishlisted on here in alphabetical order.  I am almost done with the As.

I have a system for reading mine too, but sometimes it gets too tedious and takes the enjoyment out of it.  I have a spreadsheet that lists all of the books I own, and I have a formula on the worksheet that randomly selects a number, and I read whatever book is in that number slot.  Actually, I make it more complicated than that, but that's the general idea.  If it chooses a book I don't particularly want to read, that's OK, because the next book I choose is something I pick for myself.  Lately this system has gone by the wayside, which could be why I feel so overwhelmed with choices.  Yes, I realize I take all the fun out of reading with this system LOL.

I have 300 books on my TBR list.  I thought I had alot until I read some of your posts.  I have a problem on deciding what to read also.  With working, going to school full time and having 2 pre-teens I have a hard time reading like I want to but I still manage to get a book or two in a month.  I get alot of book ideas from the discussion forums and end up ordering them knowing that I don't have alot of time to read them.

I have 717 books in my basement and living room TBR.  (Shhhhh, don't tell my husband!)  ;-)  In addition to being a PBS addict, I buy lots of books on eBay.

I try to rotate through different genres to keep things interesting.  Typically I will have one fiction and one non-fiction book going at the same time.  I try to rotate the fiction selections through literary, mystery/thriller, and paranormal so I don't get bored.  I do like to read authors chronologically though, so it takes me forever to get through an author's back catalogue... that is part of the reason my TBR is so large.

Forgot to say:  On average, I read 3 books a week but it depends on how long the books and how busy life is.  I don't have kids (which frees up a lot of time), and I have a job that occasionally allows me to read for a couple of hours which helps.

Hello all. I totaly feel your pain. I am an avid book collector. Get me in a bookstore and I could just loose my mind. Problem is there is no room for them all. Certain people will ask me, are you trying to build a library? Now I just say yes.. Soooooo many books sooo little time. I recently bought three bookcases that go to the ceiling with a ladder. I always wanted that look. But, to have a library, to some means others can come and check books in and out.. Not..  Been there, done that, hated it. Either you never get the book back or it comes back in the condition of WTF?? So, my TBR pile is out of this planet. The last book I bought is Twilight. Love Vampires. I want to read that before I see the movie.. Then I will collect the True Blood Series. The show is damn good..If only I could stay off of MYSPACE.. XOXOXO

I have about 600 on Mt. TBR -- 200 on my wishlist, and almost 800 on my reminder list (but in my defense, probably 3/4 of those are various editions of books on my wishlist...) Choosing a book can be complicated...I will look and see which books on Mt. TBR are wishlisted and then maybe read a page or two to see if it suits my taste at the moment. Sometimes while "sampling" a book, next thing I know I've continued to read it instead of just reading a page or two. Sometimes I have to start half a dozen until I find just the "right" book for the moment. If I start a series, I will usually read the entire series before moving on to something else. Otherwise I find if I read the first book in a series and then move on to something else, by the time I've gotten back to the second book in the series my head is filled with characters of all the books I've read in between and it is almost like I never read the first book! This site is so addictive! Before I discovered PBS I usually had 10-20 books waiting to be read, now having that few books would make me nervous!

My TBR pile here lists 435 books but I have a lot more that have not made it to the list.  I know that I have at least another 100 books that are older hardbacks that have no ISBN# so will more then likely end up being unpostable when I read them...I figure that I have around 500 or more books around the house that need to be read.  The only system I have for reading them is that I read a paperback and then a hardback...the fact that there are more paperbacks then hardbacks doesn't seem to be stopping me from reading them this way.  I seem to be reading alot of the wishlist books lately so that has helped get some of them out to others to enjoy.

I have 900 in my TBR pile.  I have a system.  I have all my TBR books listed.  I've made them into seven day increments.  It doesn't matter the genre they're in author alphabetical order.  So for the first week I have A - G week two is H - M and so on.  Though sometime I'll get a new book and sit down to read it.  After all it's MY TBR pile.  I can do whatever I want with it.  I started this system because I bought more than one book at a time and would have a pile.  Then buy more and put those on top of the old pile.  I'd never get to the bottom and they accumulated and I swear they multiplied!

Depending on the books I can almost always read a book a day.  If I could be strong and not buy or get another book it would take about three years to clean this up.  NOT!  PBS is a terrible place for us book addicts.
