I want some honest answers here. Don't try to impress me because i don't impress easily, besides I'm not one that you should worry about impressing. Seriously, I'm the most unimpressive person I know. Probably the most unimpressive person you know. Anyway, I was just curious because ever since i started this site I've been collecting book upon book. Now I'm sitting on this teetering TBR pile overlooking the ocean.

I spend maybe an hour a day reading, if that. I go through about a book every two weeks. See! Not impressive at all.

What does an average bibliophile read?

I dunno about average...I've been a big reader for a long time. Usually it's 15-20 books/month. Last month, 13, and four of those were audiobooks as I was very busy and just didn't have the usual time that I normally do to sit and read. I read a pretty good variety of fiction mostly, from light mysteries (some of which only take a couple of hours to read) to thick, complicated historical fiction to fantasy to general fiction. Occasionally I'll read a bit of non-fiction but not much.

I know bookish folks who read a lot more, and those who read a lot less...to me the key is ENJOYING it, however much you read! :)

I am so addicted to reading and have been since I was in third grade. I seldom am far from a book. Often I have more than one going at a time. I read both fiction and non-fiction and all genres.

I read 11 books in September - 15 in October - 12 in November - 17 in December - 17 in January - 12 in February - 7 in March - 10 in April and 10 in May.  I currently have more than 80 books sitting here waiting for their turn to be read.

I'm single and I work a full time 40+ hour a week job including a lot of Saturdays. I'm a fast reader and always have been. I read when I'm eating and before bed and a few other times thru the week when I'm bored and don't have anything else to do.

I normally read between 13 and 16 books a month.  I never go anywhere without one.  Right now I have 3 I am reading.

Probably 6.  If I had the time, it would be a lot more.  The only time I ever really get to read now is when I am waiting on my kids outside their school in the afternoons.  My husband works second shift, so I get no "me time" in the evenings.  I feel guilty if I read on the weekend when we are all together, because it's the only time during the week that we are.

It varies-usually 8-12 books a month.  I read whenever I can-if I can't get in at LEAST half an hour of reading a day I feel like I'm missing something and go crazy.

It helps that my DD is doing a reading program in school-many nights we'll go up to her room and read our own books silently, but together,  for half an hour or so.  It's a nice time with her!  Then after she's in bed I'll go downstairs and read for another hour or two.

I think 13-20 books is a lot to get read in a month! I'm curious. Are you employed? Do you have chldren, a spouse? I have a part-time job, three teen-age boys and a husband. I'm lucky if I can get one book read a week. I also take a book with me wherever I go, and sometimes I have time to read on my job. How do you find the time to read that amount of books in a month?

I've read ever since I can remember, and some times I have more time to read than others. If I am reading a really, really, really good book, I will let the housework go during the day and read. That's not very often though, I usually just read at night now. I tend to read for about 1 1/2 hours at night before bed. So, I am not getting through books too quickly. I am thinking I read maybe 10 books at the very most in November. I wish I could read more, I would love to have a few days a week where I could just read all day! :)

I read 6-12 per month.  Recently it's been more in the 6 range, but hopefully I'll get back up to 12 with the new year!

I have about 8 books a month.  I'm trying to make some headway through my TBR pile, but it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

I read 3 or 4 books a month - lots of time it depends on what type of book I am reading and how much time I spend in the carpool line!!!! I wish I could afford the time to read more!!!

I probably read between 4 - 8 books a month.  It usually takes me about a week to get through a book, just reading on my lunch hour and a bit in the evenings, but some weekends I can finish a book or two.  I don't keep track of books based on the month, but do keep a list of what I have read for the whole year.

I probably average 10 a month.  Sometimes it's 8 and sometimes 12.  Depends on the length of the book, the month of the year and how much I have going on.  I need to step it up to get through my TBR pile - but that will probably be next year.

I read about 12-15 a month usually. Unless it's a busy month like December then I cut way back because of all the baking and things I do. Since it's just me and hubby here I don't have alot of housework and things so I get alot of reading time normally :)

I read about 20 a month...so considering my tbr pile of about 1029 books it would take me about 51 months, but i get a ton of books all the time so it's always getting bigger

Wow.....Richard.....good topic! I often wondered myself...."How many books do these PBS members read in a month?" It was interesting reading the posts. Personally with me it depends on the season. Living in NW Indiana our winters can be harsh, so more time is spent indoors. I can read 10-12 a month. In the summer months when I am outdoors more often its only 4 or 5 a month. I do work a full-time 40 hr. week, but find time in the evening, my lunchbreak at work, and surprisingly during the football game commercials on Sundays.  :)   Love my football but will read during all the commercials!

I average 10-12 books a month, because I take public transportation to work so am on buses for approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes every work day.  I also read when I'm home, but that bus time tripled the number of books I was reading before I started this job.  A couple of those books every month are non-fiction that take longer to read (like psychology text books) or else the total would be higher.

When I was working and helping to raise children, I read 2 to 4 books a week. Most of my reading time was after 9:00 p.m., when the kids were in bed. As the kids got older, I read everything they read in school, and I tried to read quite a bit of what they read for pleasure, so we could discuss it. Staying ahead of young bookworms can be a challenge.

Now that I'm mostly retired - I work 3 mornings a week and do volunteer work 3 afternoons a week usually - I read one or two books a day on average. Two if I'm reading mysteries or other fiction, one if it's history-biography. I usually have 3 to 5 books going at any one time, and I've always got a paperback in my back pocket.

I read about 15 books a month depending upon the size of the book. This would be for about the 300 or so page books. If smaller, I read more but larger may mean less. I am 60 years old and am home all day. My 2 sons are in their own homes and I have no grandchildren. So, my 2 furballs and I can spend alot of time reading! I do my errands. housework etc. and then it is reading time until dinner needs my attention. After dinner it is clean up the kitchen and back to my book. DH is a TV watcher but I can be in the same room and still be able to read--I can block out the noise. He also needs to be an early riser so he goes to bed early while I just continue reading. I usually average about 6-7 hours on a normal day. I love it!

I usually get to read at night after everyone else is asleep and I average about 1 book a week.  Its a nice way to get your mind of the daily things and relax before bed.
