Not sure exactly how many books we have , but nine built in floor to ceiling bookcases plus four others won't hold them all.  When the piles start buggung me I go through and list a stack or two.

Well, I have 200ish yet to read, 110 to swap, and probably another 100 or so that I've read and I'm keeping...so between 400-500.

I'm with Laurie, thousands, and we're moving soon.  We're hiring a moving company, so I don't have to carry them, thank God, but I DO have to pack and unpack them.  Also, to add to the confusion, we have a room that is actually going to be a "library."  So I have to split the books up from the keepers going downstairs in the library and the TBRs (some of them, anyway) going into our bedroom, for the bookcases that make up our headboard.

We usually spend about $25 a month getting 3 books or so from Amazon, plus all the ones I get from on here.  My account status currently says " At this time there are not any requests going or coming from your account" and I think that is the saddest sentence, lol.  But I promised I wasn't ordering any more "random" books until after the move....

A conservative estimate would be 1200.  I have 500 listed on my TBR here, and that's probably half of what I own.  I have at least 100 "keepers", also, and about 100 listed on my bookshelf here.

It's a sickness...  Can someone stage an intervention?

Not sure.  I have 10 bookcases of my own collection, I would guess 1000, or a bit over.  I have a bookcase for books I want to start selling on Amazon.  I have a place for my 300-some books for PBS trading.  I have boxes full for a yard sale I want to have.

My daughter has 5 bookcases full of books, plus a large shelf in our walk in closet of books she can grow into.

So, I would guess around 3000+ books in this big old house...and still I look for more!  And I ain't gonna stop either (sticking tongue out at DH, hahaha).  Acutally he got me a BN gift cert. for Christmas, so I can't complain!

geez, i have no idea.  we have a library in our house with built-in bookcases.  5 floor to ceiling cases, 2 half-height cases so there's a mantle and a place for a painting.  that's a total of 12 cases of four shelves each, 3 feet interior width.  (144 linear feet so far.)  1 shelf in each case is paperback only.  plus the 'book hole'  that's a pair of smaller cases set into the space under the stairs (4 shelves each), and a little room on a freestanding shelf.  (nearly all paperbacks)

while all of the shelves are not full, i think there's only 1 or 2 shelves right now that are totally empty of books, and that's because i did another purge within the last couple of months.  when i start to run out of space, i have to go through and see what i'll part with this time to make more room.

Well, I'm looking at the bookshelves in my living room right now. There are three of them. The are each 8 feet tall and each has seven shelves. Each shelf has about 30 books though a couple of the shelves are doubled up. Seven times thirty is 210 times three is 630 plus the doubled shelves is probably 70...so, about 700 books on the book shelves in the living room. On top of that I have books in three bedrooms, books in the computer room, books in the family room and a collection of about 120 cookbooks. I'd say there are well over 1500 books in my house and that is probably a fairly conservative estimate. (It makes me so happy!!) :)

i have almost 400 on my TBR and i know thats not all cuz ive been lazy about putting my new books on there. i spend between $20 and $40 on books every month, but i only buy from the ubs (on credit), garage sales, salvation army/thrift stores, and mardels bargain bins. so i get a lot for my money

Can I just count bookshelves? Or piles that keep growing?

I would estimate, at the very least, cringe, 800?

Thanx for asking, good to know I am not the only "book nut" around, a bright note :My mom says: "Better Books than Booze" yay Mom!

I have not a clue!  I owned more before I joined PBS, that's for sure.  I cleaned up my paper back shelves last week, so I have even less.

As of today, I have 1446. I'll probably go over 1450 after the mail gets here :)

And I STILL don't have enough ;)

I have no idea what the total number is at my house but here's a guess....

I love to collect Modern Libraries. They are still being published (they are the books with the little leaping, torch-bearing mascot on the sides) but I prefer the older ones, published from something like 1917 to 1963.  I probably have:  20 of the small leather bound books from the 1920s,   80-90 hardbacks from the 1939-1963 era,  and 20-30 of the 'giants' which are the size of normal new-release hardbacks.  One shelf is dedicated to Modern Libraries only, and some of the overflow is in the living room.

Most of the books in my living room (200 or so) are older hardbacks (usually pre-1960) in literature, fiction, poetry, and plays. I haven't read nearly as many as I should, but I love how they look and I love having them around.

The shelf over my computer is all of the books I have read recently. It's funny...if a book is older (see above) I prefer only to by hardbacks. But if it's a current book that I plan to read now I only buy paperbacks.  /shrug.  Anyway, I would hazard a guess at 150 or so.

Then there is the shelf in the closet, the 3-4 boxes in the attic, and my PBS pile that totals another 200-300. If we ever build a bonus room in our house, I am getting a wall of nothing but bookshelves. It's good to see that I'm not the only person who is a self-proclaimed book hoarder. I don't know just what it is, but I love having books around...

I've got almost 600 on library thing, but that doesn't count my PBS bookshelf, any trade paperbacks and a whole case of misc. text books and stuff from college.

my library thing profile: http://www.librarything.com/profile.php?view=GordonSetter

I'm working on weeding my trade paperbacks, then I'll add them to LT and integrate them with my hardbacks. Not sure what I'll do with the old text books.

I thought I had alot.  I have 461.  My main question for everyone is where do you keep them at.  I'm having a hard time trying to find room for the few I have.

Just about 200 or so right now, but growing daily, literally. Had to purchase additional bookcases to hold what I have currently and what I know I will obtain in the future. Probably looking at having about 500-700 by the end of the year, if not more..

Boy, after reading this I am a bit on the conservative side! :)  I'd guesstimate at around 250 and that includes my TBR.......

Yikes!!!

Around 2000 and I've gotten rid of a couple hundred in the last year.  My daughter says she never goes to Borders without checking with me first, because I have everything!

I think I may have close to 7000. I have several bookcases in almost every room. That is the reason for my nickname. I know I'm obsessed with and addicted to books. I need to join a bookaholics group.

Upwards of around 900 to 1000. A lot of them are too ragged to post ( .
