I'm running a 2-fer deal and a person ordered two books through the system (which will give me two credits when the recipient marks the books received).  Is the best way to handle this to give this person back one of her credits right now?  Or is it best to cancel one of the books and send it along with the deal and have the recipient only mark one book received?

Also...this person has his/her account on hold and I'm wondering if I can even give back a credit while it's on hold.   And if I do gift a credit, do I receive a message or notification that the giving of a credit was successful?

Just want to do this the least confusing way possible (and don't want a mark against me for cancelling a book I just agreed to send out).  Maybe it doesn't count against me in this instance?

Help.

Becki,

Are you sure that the person was ordering the two books as part of the deal?  Maybe they just ordered the one book and added the second when they looked at your shelf before confirming the order?  I have done that myself several times, not knowing that someone was running a deal.

If they did know about the deal, I'm not sure what the answer would be.  I do know that when I gift someone credits, I do get an email message saying that "You gave a buddy credits"  and it identifies the person you gave the credits to and how many credits were sent.

Not sure what the next step would be with an account that is on hold.  Normally you would just PM the person to arrange things.  But obviously that won't work here.  Sorry I wasn't much help :(

Well, regardless of whether they intended to take advantage of my deal, I have PM'd them and explained that they will get both books for one credit (so they'll be getting a 2-fer deal).  As I've contemplated this, I'm thinking the best course of action is to cancel one of the books, but send both (and I've PM'd the person explaning this is what I'll do unless I hear some wisdom to the contrary here).

Becki -- I think you solution works.  People do get PMs when the account is on hold and you gave give them credits, you just can't order their books.  The person is probably traveling for the holidays and can't send books, but may or may not be on email.

Becki - don't you cancel one of the orders, the other person needs to cancel it. If you cancel, then their request for that book will be passed on to the next person with the book in the system. PM them and ask them to cancel one of the books and you will send them both (then remember to remove the other from your shelf).

For me, I do my deals as an order one and PM the others. If they order them all and you give the credits back, you will be returning a credit you may not get for a while (when its marked received), if ever (if the book goes lost and you didn't use at least PBS DC).

Melanie,

Oh yes.  Thank you so much for telling me this!  This didn't occur to me.

BTW, I've been PMing with the requestor and she is very nice and didn't realize I was offering a deal (you were right, Heather), so now I'm a really nice, generous person here in her estimation (well, actually, I think I am these things in general, but its always nice to be told that ;^)

I will clarify my "deals" better the next time I offer one.  Mine's over tonight so I'm not sure it's worth worring about at this point.

Thanks to those who weighed in.  I really was not able to see all the angles on this thing.  You've been a big help.
