I got a request today for a hardback book and the RC stated they wanted the dust jacket.  As it was the only book in the system, I accepted then sent them a PM letting them know that it was one of those books (Large Print quite often are) that doesn't have a DJ but the book cover itself is printed like a DJ.  I hesitated to accept and probably if there had been more in the system I would have refused.  How do others handle this?

As it turned out, it was fine, but I don't know if those books with the printed cover are considered DJs?  Thanks. Pat

I think most people would be fine with it. I had to add that into my RC because I got quite a few turn-downs for books that were published without a dustjacket.

Since yours was the only book in the system, you could have turned it down, and explained why in the response. Then she could have reordered it herself if she still wanted it.

I would have declined the RCS and stated that the book never had a dust jacket.  If they still wanted it they could then turn their RCS off and rerequest the book.  I don't PM over RCs so I don't have to deal with what to do if they don't respond.

In this same situation, I accepted then pm'd the requester (which I rarely do).  Let her know the book had a full color hardcover, never had a DJ ( bought it new), and asked for a reply within 48 hours.  The requester replied, approved the book, and the transaction continued without any problems.

If the requester does not reply Pat, you may wish to consider cancelling the transaction and re-posting later.  It can be frustrating if RC's don't address this area of Dust Jackets.

I  would have did exactly as you did. Being the only book in the system if they didn't want it, you would have lost nothing if you needed to cancel the transaction.

Thanks everyone.  The suggestions were all ones I considered, and when I PMd the person (again something I rarely do), I did put a deadline on a reply from her.  If there had been more than one book in the system I probably would have turned it down, but with only one book I knew I could post it right back without a problem.  As it turned out she accepted the book, with no problem. Pat
