It really doesn't happen too often but it does happen.  One must develop the patience of Job to get the most out of the PBS experience.  Just let the system work.  Each sender has 48 hours to accept a book and then five days to ship it out.  Patience is a must around here.

Good luck and welcome!

Agreed! PBS is a great place to cultivate more patience. No responses happen every once in a while, since there are waves of people who come, open accounts, post their 10 books and use their two free credits, and then abandon their accounts. It also happens more frequently if you have RCs. And people have up to 5 days to answer your request, and about 5 more to mail the book by.

Welcome and happy swapping!

I have had it happen, but only a few times.  So, hopefully you have used your "waiting" quota for a few months!  Welcome, you are gonna love it here!

I'm waiting currently for a book that has gone through three requests so far. At least I'm helping PBS weed out some inactive members I guess. Normally, it doesn't seem to take that long but then I hit a book where it just seems to go on forever.

I've seen where some swappers are looking for book and don't want to 'chance' FIFO (first in first out), they'll post in the book bazaar to see if anyone has a copy of their shelf. (As long as the book isn't wishlisted. Asking for wishlisted books isn't permitted).

I hope you get your book soon!

Like others have said, we get lots of new members on the heels of publicity.  And a portion of those members decide not to stick with PBS and abandon their accounts without notice.  So we get unresponsive requests.  Also it is summer and people may have gone on vacation without putting their account on vacation hold (which is useful any time you don't or can't participate for some reasons).   Some members are going through 4 or 5 people before getting their books.  It's discouraging to you, I know, but hang in there.  Even though it doesn't seem like it, there's a good reason to stay through the process.

In my experience it happens more often with the more heavily posted books.

But keep in mind you are helping to weed out the inactive members.  It only takes a couple of time outs now before they put someone's account on hold.

Also it's vacation season and people could have forgotten to put their account on hold.

It hasn't happened to me that often, but what can be irritating and disappointing is when it happens with a wishlist book. I mean, they were around in the past hour to post the book (this is where I am number 1, so I know the offer will come to me first), but don't bother to followup.

I recently ordered a book that had three copies in the system. On day 15 I was getting ready for the big disappointment, and having to tell my 8 year old he wasn't getting the book he wanted, when it was accepted and mailed at almost the last minute. They used DC too, so we've been watching it travel to us by checking the scans. On the flip side of this, I posted a book on the 3rd that had 7 wishers, it is still on WL hold and only one wisher left. So yes, patience is definitely a plus.LOL

Patience is a must. It seems to go in cycles from what I've seen, with whole weeks going past with everyone waiting for the last possible moment and the next week you can't get them in the door fast enough!

Actually its been happening more and more frequently to me these days and it never used to.  I usually just end up canceling my request and hitting the library.  =[

I will go and look at the bookshelves of folks who post alot or who are offering deals.  I know they will go on line and check their accounts.  And my buddies, of course.

Go to your transaction archive.  Under My Account.  That will show the canceled (ie rolled over due to lack of response) orders.  Sounds like you might be on the 3rd or 4th copy of the book.  The book shows up with the new request date after being timed out.

You can put the book on your reminder list (RL), that will show you how many copies are posted.

I have been experiencing a higher than normal dose of this.  Requested 9 books this past weekend and three are about to time out.  It is especially frustrating when they have the only copy posted on the site, which all three of these books are.

It is hard when you stumble across a perfect book for a project only to have one copy listed and the bookshelf owner it sits on not respond.

However, it does come in spurts and eventually, you will see it drop and then increase, then drop.

Patience, and I want it right now!  :)
