I am just wondering how to tell if a book is an ARC. I have never heard or seen one so I was just curious

It will say something like "not for resale", "for review purposes", "advanced reader copy", "reviewer copy", etc. Also, it will almost certainly be a paperback.

Also, many ARC's are in the spiral bound things with a plastic cover.  Manuscript form.

Another thing it might say is "uncorrected proof"

There is a thread in the Book Bazaar especially for getting rid of ARC's.
