I've only been with PBS a few months (maybe less), but some of the books I have listed are mass paperbacks and there are already 200+ copies of them listed available on PBS.   I wonder if these will ever get requested or if I am better off to find them a new home some other way.

What is the longest you've had a book sit on your bookshelf??  When do you decide to dispose of it in another manner or do you just hold on to them and wait?  I think the FIFO system is fair, I just don't know how long to expect to hold on to some of these books.  (Obviously, if you look at my list, I've had many of them around the house for quite some time so not a huge issue, just curious!)

Thanks!

Dena

Dena--

I've not quite been here a year, and I still have books on my shelf that I posted my first day of membership.  Then again, I've had some books I thought would never get requested (like the millionth copy of "The Memory Keeper's Daughter") that eventually left my shelf.  Sometimes, you never know, particularly if the book gets turned into a tv show or movie, or someone writes a review about it.

If you have lots of books and want to get some of them off your shelf, consider offering a deal in the Book Bazaar and/or donating them to a good cause.

Cheers,

Catt

I have six books that have been on my shelf over 2 years. I figure I must be near the front of the line on those!

I have a few that have been on my shelf since I joined a few years ago, but considering that according to the Pulse of PBS, found under the community tab:  Books Mailed in last 7 days: 39,044, I have hope for mine. One of the reasons I joined Box O Books was to move some of my books and to get books that there are lots of copies of here, without credits. Yiou may want to consider it.

I mostly clear my shelf every May and donate to the local Humane Society Garage Sale.    Not all the books go, but most of them, so the books aren't usually on my shelf more than a year.   If I ever had a small shelf come garage sale time, I'd probably just leave them up, but I seem to always have built up larger than I have room for--and I know I'll come home with more!

Boxing is definitely the way to go to move books with 200 copies in the system.  Highly recommend it :-)

I started here Jan 1, 2006.  My oldest book is dated May 23, 2006.  I know that I posted a lot of books between those two dates, so I was surprised to see this date.  I have 22 books on my shelf from 2006.  I have 20 books from 2007 and I have 18 books from 2008, though one of those is a wishlist book waiting for member.

All that said, in the last month, I've had 4 orders for older (as in time on my shelf) books.  Currently, my bookshelf is too big for the container under my bed, so my more recently added books sit in a pile on my dresser.  I've actually had to get into the container for books recently.  The one I mailed yesterday was added to my shelf in June 2006.  It's neat to watch those books slowly disappear.

I've had books sit on my shelf for well over a year and a half before they got requested. In fact, there was one that I just deleted recently that I posted the first week I joined here, which would make it about 2 1/2 years on my shelf! Currently most of the books I have on my shelf have just been put there within the past few months since I had my account on hold for several months and ended up deleting a lot of the hardcovers and donating them to the library for their book sale--I didn't have the space to keep harboring them, nor the extra money involved to send them.

Ultimately they're your books to do with as you please--if you can't wait patiently for your turn in FIFO and don't want to offer deals (and I don't blame you there--what a hassle!) or deal with being a "boxer" then go ahead and donate them or bring them to a UBS to trade in for something you want--and possible even something wishlisted! :)

I"ve been here about a year, I haven't checked but I bet I have a few books from when I first joined.

You can offer deals on the older books if you want to make them move, I've had success with that.

I have two books that have been on my shelf since 1/4/06. I also had a lot of Harlequins that I added when I first joined (in June of 2005) and I gave them all away before I moved because I didn't want to move any more books than I had to. I also offered deals before I moved and I think I'm going to do that again because my trade box is overflowing again due to my ongoing book purge.

I have so many books that I posted within a few days of joining (over a year and a half ago). A few weeks ago, one of them was requested -- there are currently 338 copies of that book available!

I have only been here since Feb 14 or so. I have many books on my shelf. Yet I am suprised as to the number of books that have left. I started with filling up copy boxes with lids and stacking them up. As a book is requested I remove it and prepare it for shipping. My books almost go out within 1 day. I have noticed I have one copy box that is about empty.  My thought is I will keep them on and then in 6 months or so I will donate them to the local library sale. I will then start over. Simply adore it when one of my books leaves the bookshelf.

My oldest are probably from 2007 I think-every Jan. I clean up my shelf.  The books that don't go I do one of the folowing:  see if my used bookseller wants to buy them for a miniscule amount, take them to our Sal. Army, or put them away for a yard sale I want to have this summer.  This year if I have any children's books that are in nice shape, I'd like to see if I could donate them to DD's elementary school.  It's a small country school and I'm sure nice children's books would be appreciated.

Sometimes I get a nice surprise though!  I had some books I thought would never go, and one day, they were requested!  So you never know.
