Hi all
How long is the longest that you all have had a book posted and it did eventually get requested. Just wondering how many kept them until they got requested...and how many decided after a while to take books off their lists and donated them elsewhere, and if so, how long did you leave them posted. I just see my little shelf where I keep my posted stuff at, so they don't get lost, filling up after awhile and just wanting to how everyone else handled this aspect. I know, of course I am free to do as I please here, and still wishing input. Oh, and if your one to hold onto all of them until they are requested, how long has been your longest keep?
Thank you |

I joined in April and I still have quite a few books on my bookshelf from then. I don't take any off, unless I use them for a swap. I am thinking, though, of taking some off after the first of the year. Our town library is building a new library, and they sell books all the time. So, I could donate some to them. I stil am now, though, getting requests for books I've had since the beginning. Don't forget new members join all the time. One of those new members just might be looking for what you have on your bookshelf! If you are thinking of getting rid of some, you could see how many of that book are in the system first. |

I have an unattached garage to store books in, so I keep everything on my shelf till it's requested. Now I'm probably going to be moving in the spring and I don't know what kind of storage I'll have then, so I might have to reduce the number somewhat. Right now I have a little over 600 books on my shelf here. That does not include the several hundred TBR and keepers I have, or the boxes I haven't gone through to post yet. |

I just checked my bookshelf and found that I have two books on it from when I first joined in 8/2005! They are both mysteries that I don't even remember, they are probably books I never read. I have some extra space in my apartment, so I just leave books on until they are requested. If my space was more limited then I would have to decide how long is too long. |

I'm curious how to find out how many copies of a certain book are already posted. I've seen a few people mention checking this information but I have not been able to figure out where this infomation is. Thanks! |

Betsy, if you put the book on your reminder list you can see how many copies are currently in the system. Of course, that doesn't tell you where your copy is in that group, unless you do this right before/after posting the book. I've had some books take more than a year to be requested, but I don't think any of my originals are still on my shelf. |

I sent a suggestion in that we should have a listing like on the wish list that would tell you how many copies and what position your book is in that list. It could say: 75 of 89, just like the wishlist! |

All my originals from when I joined in February are gone (though, to be fair, quite a few of them were probably requested from the other swap site I belong to). My oldest right now is from 3/25/07 - Therapy by Jonathan Kellerman, if anyone was curious. Oddly enough, the next oldest after that is from 9/8/07, so quite a gap there! I have 14 still on my shelf from 2 years ago, but none from the original group from Sept. 2005. I just last week got rid of one of the books listed in 2005, though. I haven't donated any of them, but awhile ago one of the members ran a deal in the Bazaar that was 4 for one for anything listed over a year and I participated in that and got rid of some of my "moldy oldies" that way. Sometimes I will offer a freebie to somebody that orders one of the really oldies, too. |

Thank you, people, for your replies. I will keep them as long as there is space in my shelf and not worry about how long they are there.
