this is from a message another PBS member sent me earlier, so when I click on this person's name it only shows me what is on their bookshelf for some reason. wonder why?

Under Privacy Controls a person can decide what others can and can't see on their profile. The person that you looked at might have everything else set to private so that only they can see it.

Generally, the information you are asking about shows up in a member's profile. However, some members choose not to create a profile or set all of their profile information to private. In those cases, you will not be able to see how long they have been members -- unless you see a posting by that member in one of the forums, in which case that information is listed under the date posted. In other cases, members may have public profiles but have decided to keep information regarding the number of books sent and received private. Hope this helps.

Oops -- Kim beat me to it.

You can sort of get an idea by going to their book or wish list, and seeing what book has been posted or wishlisted the longest.  It's not a really fool-proof indication but  usually someone will have a book posted that's been on either list quite some time (WLd books are probably a better indicator).  If everything is fairly recent, you can probably presume they're a new member.  Pat

Like others have said, if their profile is private or doesn't have that info you can look at the WL dates, or their bookshelf dates.  I like to look smiley and your question made me look at your profile and I see you are in Cary - I am in Raleigh!

Bear in mind, too, that membership length isn't always a measure of ... anything?  As a Tour Guide, I get plenty of novice-type questions from members whose accounts have been open for several years, and I also see new members who have already traded dozens of books and memorized the Help Center.

Pat's tip is a good one -- that's where I look, too, if I'm trying to figure out how long a member may have been here. ;-)

I do happen to see that if you post on any forum, it appears that your membership date shows up in the upper right hand corner.  You could try looking for that member in the forums to see if they posted anything.  Use the search all forums button and put in their name/nickname.  You may find them.
