I received a book with no ISBN on the cover (although pbs, amazon, etc say it has one), no barcode, no copyright page. The book is titled "Where to Invade Next" by Stephen Elliott and the McSweeney's group. Is anyone familiar with McSweeney's publications? Could this have been intentional on their part? I just want to make sure I'm not receiving an Advanced Reader's Copy. I recall seeing this title on a Barnes & Noble shelf last year, but I thought B&N required barcodes. |

I'm not entirely sure, but any Advanced Readers copy that I have ever seen clearly says advanced readers copy or Bound Galley. It is odd that there is no information though. Maybe you can contact the publisher? Sorry I'm not too helpful...:( |

It doesn't say Arc or bound galley either...good sign. Nor does it say "not for resale" which is another sure sign of an Arc. You're right, the publisher is probably the only one who can provide a definitive answer. Thank you. |

It seems to me that it was posted incorrectly in the first place- did the version you ordered have an ISBN? If so, then the sender posted the book incorrectly. If the book has no ISBN on it, it should have been posted without an ISBN. Sending the wrong version of a book, whether it be the wrong binding or the wrong ISBN, is a RWAP. PBS has a system set up for posting books that don't have ISBNs, and those should NOT be posted as a book with an ISBN. The Help Center has more info on posting books without ISBNs if you want to check that out. But I would think that if you received a book without an ISBN when the book you ordered has an ISBN, that is a problem transaction. Edited to add, here is a little blurb from the HC on "official" wrong book transactions:
Wrong-book transactions: Since it is clear that the ISBN on the book must match the listing, if it doesn't (including not having one at all), that is a problem transaction. You would mark it RWAP- Wrong Book. Last Edited on: 12/9/09 5:25 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

That is odd, though. I've gotten lots of their books and they always have an isbn (even the Quarterly does). You could always contact the nice people at McSweeney's and I'm sure they would help. |
