I am confused, and this has happened a couple of times now.

Let me break it down for you...  :)

1.  WL book is offered.  I accept and wait for member to accept.

2.  Sender accepts,  and says they'll mail by blah blah date.

3.  Out of curiousity on what else is on their bookshelf,  I click on "order more from this member".  I look at list of books.   Then, I click on their username to go to their account,  where you can see bookshelf, wish list and reviews.

4.  When I click on their username,  it says that their account is on hold and I can't see their bookshelf.

This has happened twice before,  and now I have two other books from accounts "on hold".   What gives?     How is it possible for me to be offered a book from an account that is currently on hold??????

One of the books is supposed to be mailed by 11pm tonight,  and it looks like it's not going to happen.     So, is it possible for someone to say they'll mail a book --- then put their account on hold and just let it time out and be cancelled by PBS?

I have plenty to read right now,  so I am not chomping at the bit to get my hands on these books.  It's just the principle of the matter.   I know that life gets in the way sometimes, and things happen.   But this is looking like it will happen to me for the fourth time in a matter of weeks,  and I just find it odd.

I have no problem waiting for my turn  FIFO,  it just would be nice to be offered a book from someone who's account isn't on hold.

Thoughts?

Some people try to control their postage costs by putting their account on hold and only posting the occassional WL book. They autorequest WL books.  When I was getting ready to move cross country I didn't want any WL offers so I went on hold. I would still post WL books because I wanted to send books out and have less to move.

Although it does sound like one will time out tonight. If today was the mail by date then they have until 11pm on Monday to mark it mailed. If Thur was the mail by date than it would time out tonight at 11pm.

I've put my bookshelf on vacation hold many times, usually when I've reached my spending amount for postage that month.  If I need a credit, I just post a WL book instead of taking my account off hold, with posting only WL books, I can easily control how many books I mail out.

It sounds like you just got an absent-minded swapper.

Good luck!

I agree - they might not realize that any books they post while on vacation hold isn't "held".

Like others, I put my account on hold periodically for financial reasons, but am still here every day. Occasionally taking the account off hold to post a few wishlisted books and then going right back on hold is a great way to manage how many requests I get. If the sender responded and has accepted the order, I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably someone who uses the hold feature not because they're really gone away.

Thank you so much for the replies!  :)     I see now that even though the account is on hold,  you can still post a WL book on a case by case basis.  Totally makes sense.

I guess I was just frustrated because the first two times this happened,  the book was never mailed out and was cancelled by PBS.  One time the label was even printed,  and the sender just let it time out in the system.    So I was just wondering if it would happen again,  I really hope it doesn't!

Even though one book was to be mailed by last night,  I realize that it actually has to be mailed by Monday the 16th before it will be cancelled.  Whew!  So there is still hope!

Thanks again!

Sometimes people post a bunch of books right before a vacation without checking to see if they are WL. Then they put their account on hold-go away and come back to find out they had missed requests.

Even though the Help Center still says this, it is not true. WL books posted while you are on Vacation Hold ARE held. I just did one this last week and it held it. It is also how people post WL books to their Bookshelf that they are not ready to send, they put their account on Vacation Hold, post the WL books, put the individual hold on them, then take off the Vacation Hold. The books will not be offered to people if you post them while on Vacation Hold. I have sent in feedback on this a few times, but they never seem to fix the Help Docs. This feature was changed just before I joined I believe.

Mny people just unhold their account long enough for the WL book to post and then put it back on Vacation Hold. You wouldn't even get the e-mail before they go back on Hold so it would appear that they were never off of the Hold.

The Help Center says is large letters:

Books newly Posted to your Bookshelf during a Hold will be hidden from requests.
