You can not post two copies of the same book, with the same ISBN. You can post a second copy only after the 1st copy has been requested and mailed.

From the Help Center:

Can I post multiple copies of the same book?

No. We allow a member to Post only one copy of a book at a time.

  • If you have two versions of a book (same title but different ISBNs):
    • you may post both, as some members will request different versions of the same book through Wish Lists, etc.
  • But duplicate ISBNs cannot coexist on your bookshelf.
  • You may post one copy at a time
  • Once you have mailed the first copy you can post another copy.
  • This rule is in place to give all members a chance at getting their copies requested

Sorry Mark, probably a safety reature so members don't accidently post the same book multiple times.  Frustrating if you legitimately have two copies of the same book, but just post the second after the first is requested.

I imagine it's also there so book sellers can't can't flood the system with books and keep others from gettign orders as well. We have quite a few members that run used book stores.  We also have a few authors who sometimes post their own books because they get free copies (I assume they're free anyway)

I frequently  have duplicate titles because my mom (gotta love her) thinks I'm the trustee for the future of the family decendants so she sends one for each child + one for me.  I'm not the Library of Congress or the Smithsonian (although my DH might argue that point) so I do list the ones that meet the PBS guidelines here.  It does take a while.  But at least all those copies are going to people who want them.  My mom doesn't know this and she'd be livid if she did.  But I have only so much room, and I want it for my things.  Trying to get my mom not to do this is impossible - I've tried.  Later on there will be more duplicates from her estate.... I don't like to think of that though.

We ought to all send your mom a thank-you note, Ruthy! ;)  She qualifies as a PBS benefactor.

There is a loop hole in this two posting limit.  If you received two copies of one book because the first copy was declared lost and arrrived later, then you are able to post both copies by removing the bookshelf hold.

Oh, Patty - please don't!!  I've tried for years to get her to buy just one or 2 copies but she just doesn't hear me.  So I've done the best thing I can think of and posted them here.  If she found out I'd never hear the end of it and she'd haunt me until the day I died and who knows what after that!!  I just couldn't take it!! ;D
