I've been approaching my reading like a person who is gulping down an expensive gourmet meal without appreciation. Sutherland dissects the novel into obvious (to me, now), segments, analyzing structure, titles, genres, how to choose a book, and even the historic development of the novel. He does this all with an entertaining approach, and lots of examples, from serious works, as well as more everyday fare. Its a very interesting read.
