I have been having a devil of a time storing my paperback books on my bookcase.  The bookcase is so deep, the paperbacks look lost on the shelves.  Then when I started running out of room I stored them stacked on their sides two deep.  But that makes finding a book difficult.  I think I have found the perfect solution so I'm sharing it with you.  I just purchased a bookcase designed to store media such as VHS tapes and DVD's.

The beauty of this is that the shelves are not as deep as a regular bookcase and the shelves are adjustable.

Perhaps we can use this thread as a way to share our storage solutions for paperback books.

If you're looking for shelves that aren't that deep, those look to be ideal.   But I have to have shelves that minimize the amount of horizontal wall space that they take up (so tall, skinny and with fairly deep shelves).   All of my books are stacked two deep also, even if that means that the front stack sticks out a little over the edge of the bookshelf ledge.   They are filed alphabetically by the last name of the author, so I don't have a problem finding a book, even if it "hidden" in the back stacks.

Well, I shouldn't say that I NEVER have a problem.    When an author has two last names, I have to make a decision which name to use for filing purposes.   Sometimes I forget which last name I picked and can't find the book.

Oh - I should add that I keep a list of my TBR online, so that also makes it easier to find a book.   I use the PBS TBR list.

I stack my paperbacks horizontally, too, three deep in my linen closet. I put them in alphabet "groups" ... so A-D is on the left, E-G is in the middle, etc. It never takes me more than about 30 seconds to find a book (that is, if I know the author). Trying to find that book I read 6 years ago about the girl who had a cat who did the funny thing .... that can take me quite a while!

Katie- You should be posting this on the CMT forum as this is not a question about PBS. You would get more replies that way too.

Sorry, I'll take it to that thread.
