I could use a little bit of help from you guys. I was up until 4 a.m. last night trying to find the name or author of a book I borrowed from a friend in high school.

After doing a bunch of searches, I have ruled out the following authors: Christopher Pike, R.L. Stine, L.J. Smith, Lael Littke, Richie Tankersley Cusick, Diane Hoh, Carol Ellis, D.E. Athkins, Patricia Windsor, A. Bates, and maybe all of the Point Horror authors from the 90s.

What I remember of the book is very little; there is a girl, a guy, and a forest. I believe the boy lives in the forest, and has lived there for a long time. He is possibly cursed or immortal. I don't remember either of their names, but I remember that they were in love. But they didn't actually stay together; he stays in the forest--if I am remembering correctly. Some of the story may have taken place in high school. I also remember the cover. It had a picture of the boy, and he looked as if he were part tree. He also had really piercing eyes that may not have looked human.

I'm hoping this sounds familiar to someone!

The book would have been about the same size as any Point thriller, maybe no more than 200 pages, and it was a mass market.

Found the title!! It was THE STRANGER by Caroline B. Cooney.
