I have a copy of a highly desirable WL book (no, I'm not telling yet!) It's perfectly readable- but, when I was reading it I noticed that about page 50 there is a very small section of a few pages that are pulling away from the spine just a little bit at the bottom. I'm sure many people would never notice, but to me I consider this unpostable and I'm not going to pass the buck to someone else. So, I've heard people refer before to being in this situation and offering it as a freebie if someone orders something off their shelf. How exactly does one go about doing this? Where do you post such an offer- in the bazaar? It's a pretty genre specific book- so in that forum? Do you ask people to pm you and give it to the first one to do so? Does the person requesting tell you in the pm which book from your bookshelf they want? I would think that otherwise how do you not have multiple people answering your offer? Is there another way of handling this I'm not thinking of? Specific step by step advice would be appreciated. I hate for this book to just sit with me because many people want it and it's perfectly readable. It was probably bound this way- doesn't look very worn at all. I also don't want to do anything that's against the rules. BTW, I didn't get this through a PBS trade- picked it up for .50 at the library sale! Thanks, Sara |

In the book bazar is a March unpostable thread (or whatever month). I just put a message on that thread saying I have "whatever book" free w/any order from my shelf. P.m. me if you would like it (or similar wording). I also explained what the damage is. I also put it on my signature line. Then took it off when gone. You could make your own thread, but sometimes they get lost in all the threads. I know I always check out the unpostable thread in the bazaar. If it were my book. I would go to the book bazaar and start a topic that says something like this- Unpostable version of The Stand by Stephen King. The I would say in my post that I had this book and it was unpostable because it was puling away from the spine a little bit and would let someone have this book if they ordered something else from my shelf and pm'd me telling me they wanted this book. maybe smething like this------ I have an unpostable copy of The Stand by Stephen King. The pages are pulling away from the binding a bit, but book is still completely readble. I will give it to the first person who orders something from my shelf and sends me a pm telling me they want it, and what other book thry ordered. Also put a reply here so others know it is gone.

It's definately unpostable. I post a lot on the boards and I usually just put it in my signature in bold lettering. I have an unpostable Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy by Helen Kay Dimon WL book free with order from my shelf. (example for one I recently had-I don't have it anymore). A WL book is almost immediately grabbed. When I posted that one I had an order from my shelf and a pm from someone almost immediately. But I post a lot. Recently I had 2 books in a series. Both were WL but book 1 was unpostable. I wanted to send the out together. All I did was mention it on a thread discussion what books people were currently reading. Within a short time I had someone PM that they wanted the one posted to them and the freebie unpostable one. So I got to send them off together. I would just post it in the book bazaar what you have. It'll go quickly. |

since i am a newbie i posted a few books that i guess are unpostable, but i have always PM'd the person w/ exact descriptions and always got the reply to send. now i do not expect perfect books and i also think people have books that may be old and have some condition problems but are not available anywhere so they may be still highly desireable. i still have to navigate all these other options. but this method seems the simplest. |

Hester, I don't quite understand which option you decided is the simplest? Did you decide to go with the book bazaar or posting and PM'ng the requestor? I wasn't sure which you meant? |

Hester: if a book is unpostable, it can't be offered for a credit even if you PM the requestor with a condition. The help docs explain what is postable and what isn't. If in doubt, come here an post a description of the book and people will let you know if it's postable or not. I don't expect new books either. But I don't want to use a $3 credit on a book that's falling apart or stained either. |
