LOL....I just received an email from the PBS "librarian" basically telling me to hurry up and finish all those wish-listed books I'm sitting on. The email actually named two of the books on hold on my bookshelf and said a lot of other members were waiting for them. Is this something new? I do have about 25 wish-listed books in my TBR pile but I usually read whichever book I'm in the mood for, wish-listed or not. |

You can opt out of those emails under settings. They're calling it "order followup".

Yep, I got one with a lot of "reminders". I'll have to opt out because I can order so much faster than I can read. I do try my best, though! And I do intend to repost them when I've read them. What do you suppose caused them to add this "feature" (that I'm not so sure I like). Not enough books getting reposted? Not enough reviews? I have read and reposted about 6 WL'd books in the last week. What more can I do?? I can't take the PRESSURE! ;D Ruth |

I just got one for the first time today and immediately opted out. Really, Mr. Automatic Email Robot, you really, really don't want me reposting my salt-water logged, suntan lotion stained Dead Until Dark. Trust. |

I got one today too. Wondered what that was all about. Like we need more reminders. I opted out too. LOL. Christina Last Edited on: 7/15/09 4:18 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Just my opinion but I find that to be mildly rude. The default when you mark a book received is that it goes on your bookshelf with a hold. If you forget to click the drop box and tell the system not to do this a book you might have gotten as a "keeper" (which most of mine are) could generate one of those emails. Even if it's not a keeper, having the system urge you to read faster might embarrass a slow reader, or otherwise make them uncomfortable. I'm glad they give an option to turn these off, but I have to wonder if they aren't shooting themselves in the foot with this...

There's a discussion of this in CMT also http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=172387 The OP has the text of the email that is sent, for anyone wondering what it says. |

I'm reading, I'm reading. I have about 150 WL books on my TBR pile not all of them acquired here. I'm checking out the link Janelle. I haven't received one of those e-mails. I'm with everyone else though if I get it I'm opting out of that in a flash. I love to read and always have but I and I know we all have a life outside of PBS! |

That is definitely new. I will be opting out. I don't know that it's really rude, per se...just annoying. The last thing I need is a book nanny telling me what to do with my books. I have probably....oh....400 books on my TBR that are wishlisted. And yes, aside from a few that I do plan to add to my Keeper collection, I will be re-posting a great majority of them--but not until I'm darned good and ready to read them. Cheryl |

Ok gonna have to turn that off. I probably have about 50 or so WL books I received from PBS. Although I don't put them on my shelf on hold so maybe that's what triggers the email. |
|||
|
|||
Well I just checked and I had no emails. I wonder if it's only done when you have WL books on hold on your shelf. Because I have over 100 logged into my TBR and it didn't send a single email. |

"This email serves as a reminder for you to give back to your fellow club members by re-posting your books and sharing your book reviews." I got the email today, too, and was particularly irked at the part I've posted above. I mean, yes, I have a lot of books on my TBR stack (many of which did not even come from PBS transactions), but I've also posted a lot of books over the years, many of them wishlisted - enough that I feel that it probably evens out. I've also posted 48 book reviews. Oh, and I had already read two of the books on the list (they're on my BIR list, rather than TBR), and I'd already posted a review for one of them. Sorry, the tone of the thing just steams me. ;-) I'm glad it wasn't just me feeling this way. Pam Last Edited on: 7/15/09 7:38 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

All the books I get I leave on hold on my bookshelf. It's just easier for me. And apparently, PBS doesn't lile it! Too bad. Ruth |

I didn't get the email either and I have a ton of WL books on my TBR and some on my Shelf on the hold from when I received them. The only thing I can come up with is that it didn't go to those with their shelves on Vacation Hold?? |
|||
|

Actually, I didn't see the email - I saw mine in the Club Communications. I don't like to wade through email. So the CC works for me. Ruth |

I'm not on vacation hold so I don't know why I got one. Someone on the CMT reported that they got one even affter they opted out of receiving them. So who knows what's going on. I was thinking it was somehow triggered by the TA but then that wouldn't explain why people are getting them for books they already reposted unless it doesn't recognize the 2nd transaction as being related ot the first that triggered the email. |

Is there ANY member who wants to get those emails and didn't opt out ? |
|||
|

I didnt get one either. Like others have already posted, I usually dont let the W's dictate what I read or when, unless I am getting short of credits. I am not sure I want to get the emails, but they sound better than the 10 a day I keep getting about Viagra! I am a woman, darn spammers. |

I sent e-mail back , telling them I did not appreciate their nag. What I do with my books, and when I do it, is my business. I post on a regualr basis, and have books available to swap. In fact, I may move all my TBR listing to my Librarything account, which can track for me just as easily. And I set my e-mail filters so future e-mails wil go to spam box. Wonder when CDSwap will start nagging?

I've never received one of these e-mails. I must not have the must-read books on my TBR. I don't like that PBS intituted the hurry up e-mails (even though you can opt out). It seems to go against the friendliness of this site. A book you receive from PBS is yours to do what you want. You can keep it, give it away, or repost. And if you repost, you can repost on your own timeline. |

foggylady: just a note about marking PBS emails as SPAM- it can lead the the closure of your account. FYI.

I received one of those and also thought it was annoying, especially since I had already reposted and sent out at least one of the books it mentioned. LOL. |

Hmm. Well, I for one wouldn't mind the e-mails - but I didn't get them. Why I would not mind: I don't look at my bookshelf (esp. the books on hold) regularly, so if I got a reminder on specific books, I'd probably keep it in mind when I was choosing what to read next. As for why some are getting the e-mails and some are not, I'll tell you my stats (in case that helps someone figure it out.) 6 books on my bookshelf on hold have the red W and one has the Green WA. My bookshelf has not been on hold for months. I do pretty regularly repost wishlist books, especially lately, say about 1 a week or so. The earliest Red W book posted date (date I recieved the book) is 04/02/09. I can understand why people would NOT want these e-mails. I just don't mind and do see some utility to ME to get them. M.E. "just a note about marking PBS emails as SPAM- it can lead the the closure of your account. FYI." How would PBS even know? It's not as if she said she's reporting it as spam, just filtering it as it comes in so it goes to her spam folder. And why would they even care what folder it was kept in?
