Nell Fairfield had four good reasons to acquire a husband in a hurry and only one good reason to ask Dean McBride to marry her-- The four young children Nell "inherits" just before losing her job and being threatened with eviction. Strangely enough, Dean needs Nell-- he's a writer and Nell gives him insight into his female character. He isn't looking for romance-- he loved his wife too well. He agrees to the marriage on a temporary basis. Once the book is written, he won't need Nell anymore. Even though his book is really coming to life-- especially the sexy parts. And the big house where Dean lives is also coming to life-- there are treasure holes all over his yard and two rambunctious puppies and children who call him "Daddy" and offer hugs and confidences. Still Dean insists that the situation is temporary. The children, however, aren't looking for a temporary father and Dean discovers that he isn't looking for a temporary life.
