I have been trying to find some Ralph Compton books for my husband who reads one per night.  I saw that one member had several listed and I pm'd him and asked if he would consider making a deal.  (I did look at his profile after the fact and he always has a 2 for 1 on it).  Anyway, he pm'd me bac and said he had 5 listed, order 2 and he would send the 5.

I ordered 2, pm'd him that I had placed the order and thanked him for telling me he would send the 5.

I got a message back saying I needed to check to see who made me that offer, that it wasn't him!!   I sent back a message, which of course included all of our correspondence, including his telling me he would send the 5.

He has never responded,.  Do we have people on here who just like to play games?   My husband was so excited because he had not read any of the 5!  I suppose I should go ahead and cancel the order from my end???    What do y'all think of this kind of response?

I would cancel the order.  Sounds like you're only going to get the 2 you ordered. Pat

Judy,

Did you order directly from the member's bookshelf (not the book description page)? When you say you saw that a member had several listed had you ordered a book already and used the PM button on that order or the order more from this member option? I guess I'm trying to figure if you had this email discussion with the member before you actually ordered books and then when you went to order the books the order went to someone else.

Did you keep the original PMs and are they from the same person?

Thanks for all the suggestions.  Yes, I did cancel the orders.   After browsing different bookshelves where the members had a lot of westerns listed, I pm'd him from "my account" site...not from his bookshelf site.  He is the one who initiated the "order 2 and I will send the 5."   It was after that, that I went back to his bookshelf, ordered 2 and pm'd him that I had done so and thanked him for his offer of the 5.

It was right after that, that he said I needed to check who made me that offer, it wasn't him.  And, yes, I kept ALL messages and they are ALL between the same person and me.  AFTER, I pm'd him with the date, time, and exact message he made the offer on, I never heard from him again.

A prank?   Too much "Christmas spirit"?  An attempt to get me to order without his following through?

I just don't think that sort of thing should be done at PBS!   Most of the members are WONDERFUL!

Assuming it's all the same person, it could be he may have forgotten and things got crazy with the season. Sometimes life happens, and deals fall through when people do have good intentions.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You were able to cancel, and can re-order the books from someone else. Hope you can find another deal!

Maybe spouses are sharing the account?  One made the deal and the other has no clue?  You'd think they would communicate before returning your pm, but I've known some couples.... lol.

Denise, that is very true!  And, I did ask in my final reply if anyone had access to his account besides him!

I would happily give you a 2 for 1 deal, but I only have 1 Ralph Compton book, "Six Guns & Double Eagles"

Maybe he's older and has some memory issues.
