I know this has been addressed before but I do not have the time to plow through 2000 messages to find the correct answer to my question.

There is no ISBN on this book and it has several different versions posted to the system.

Spine says BMI which has zero wishers 360 pages 1996   date

Inside it says Book Margins Inc. for which there are no wishers same page amount and year.

Now to make it more fun there are 6 versions of this book all with different ISBn's if any, and all published same year, same amount of pages by either BMI or Book Margins Inc.

There is only one wisher for one version of this book.  Do I close my eyes and pick one version to post to ...flip a coin or just post to the one wisher and hope they will accept the book?

I am sure this is not the first tme this has happened so maybe someone can advise me as to what to do.

The book is A leaf in the Wind by Velda Sherrod.

Just post 'without an ISBN'. The system will generate a unique short ISBN for your book. You cannot use an existing ISBN if your book does not have one. When you add the title and author/ book info the PBS system should alert the wishers with a 'similar to' message. You can also put a tag on the WL books that it's available with your new ISBN number. Also, people watch the recently posted lists so your book would show up on there.

ETA: you can add a thread in Book Bazaar too so people will know your version is available. It's okay to offer a non-WL book.

Sometimes the ISBN is on the copyright page. But at least one publisher has a habit of coping the page for all versions. The hardback ISBN shows up on all other versions. Sort of an editing short cut.

Thanks for the information Linda I will do that.

Emily.. yeah that is what I thought too, but the copyright page didn't have it on there either which was rather odd since it isn't a really old book.

Sometimes the ISBN is on the last printed text page of the book and not on the copyright page.  Sometimes it's on the dust jacket - back cover, front inside flap, back inside flap, or even on the spine.

Even now, some 'special editions' aren't given ISBNs.  We find that with some BCEs and 'member only' editions - sort of promotional-type releases. And yes, Linda's advice is the way to go!

I don't believe that "similar to" messages go out to members wishing for a book when it is listed with a short ISBN. Messages only go out when books are linked and I don't think that PBS will link to a book listed with a short ISBN.
