I have a book with an ISBN that is not recognized by the system.  The book was printed by a small independent printer and not a big publishing house.  It is a memoir that I think would be of interest to other PBS members.

How do I post this book?

LaVonne,

On your Post Books tab, there is a link to Post a Book without An ISBN.  Use that option and fill in the details.  The system will assign the book a unique ISBN number.

Wait ... don't do that. Since the book has an ISBN, but not a PBS listing, you can enter it with the ISBN. Just go to your bookshelf to the "Post Book" tab and enter the ISBN. When the system can't find a listing for the book, it will open up the Book Data Edit page and you will be able to fill in all the information for the ISBN.

I've done this before because I sometimes receive Australian or Canadian copies of popular Wish List books ... you can use the full ISBN to list those books.

Thanks Sara - I want to post the book with the ISBN because I believe once this book (which is newly published) has some exposure there will be others who want to read it.

If the system is recognizing it as a valid ISBN, but not in the system it should do what Sara is telling you and open a screen to enter all the information and that is the best way to add the book to the system. If the system is not recognizing it as a valid ISBN, then it won't give you the screen to add it to the system and you would need to add it as a book without an ISBN.

I had that problem when trying to add a Canadian book to my TBR.  After awhile it was in the system.  I think inputting the ISBN might prompt the system to find it elsewhere.
