I'm ordering a new ice cream maker from Amazon and wonder if anyone has any good recipes for me.  Or maybe a recommendation for a good ice cream cookbook.  I'm also venturing into yogurt and frozen yogurt : )

The BEST I have ever made was mango ice cream, and I sort of just improvised using fresh mangoes, cream, sugar, a little salt, vanilla bean, and a little Karo syrup.  It was a cross between an ice cream and a sorbet, but MAN was it good!  IIRC it took 8 large mangoes to make the entire batch.

Sorry I don't have a recipe, but I'll bet there is one on the web. :)

I love the Maple Walnut ice cream in the newish Gourmet cookbook.  It has the most intense maple flavor because it directs you to reduce the syrup before adding it to the cream mix.  Delish!

I'm making granitas as I have milk allergies.  My current fave is lemonade with frozen blueberries.  Sweet and tart.  Don't just use fruit juice as it needs to have more flavor when frozen.  I add fruit to the juice or cook it to reduce.

Making orange juice with cranberries for turkey day.

And remember that sugar makes a chemical reaction, changing the texture of the ice.  Don't try to replace it unless it is with something similar, like honey, karo, or maple syrup.  Otherwise you end up with rock hard ice cubes.
