I haven't been back on PBS long, and I'm certain this doesn't happen often - especially not amongst the folks who talk here - but I recently received 2 unpostables from one member. I don't want to make the mistake of requesting books again from this member. So I put her in my buddy list and then tagged her as don't order.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

That's what I've been told as well. However, it would be incumbant upon you to be sure that if an order comes in under her name, to cancel it as the system won't do it if you use FIFO (which I do for the majority of my orders)

I'm sorry that situation happened.

I know it's aggravating, but it's hard to perfect a way to not order from a particular person. I hope your next swaps go much, much better!

Thanks, Valli and Mimi! You're right, of course. I'll have to watch every order in order not to order from her. (How many times can you use the word, order, in one sentence?!)

Well, I wasn't any help, but at least I can commiserate with you! I'm having a different frustration. I posted Atonement by Ian McEwan which is on lots of wishlists right now, but it has already gone through 4 or 5 wishers. Actually, I'm not even frustrated anymore. I'm now curious to see how long this book will stay hung up in the wishlist line. Maybe I can make a new record, lol!

Yeah, Valli, sometimes I think PBS gives members too long to respond. I've seen some folks offer WL books in the Book Bazaar. I'm not sure how kosher this is, though.

I think that's all you can do.  I had a spate of those over December.  I even got my first moldy book which rated really high on gross factor.

I've often wished for a block button so you don't have to keep a list or tags in your Buddy List.  It's hard to remember to check (at least for me)

Valli, you can always cancel it out and post it to MY WL and it's on auto request!

Oh Marci, I wish I'd known that when I posted it!! See, I should have posted about this one in the contemporary books thread that was started. It was ME that started that thread!  **Smacking Head**  Can you believe this book is STILL on wishlist hold??? I usually don't even notice when my books are passed over in the wishlist line, but this one has been pending too long for me to not notice! I'd be willing to bet that it has already been through at least five people.

Is there a way to cancel it out somehow so that I can post it to Marci's wishlist? If anyone know how to do this, let me know!

Are you able to delete it from your bookshelf? Just guessing at what might work ...

I PM'd you Valli. I've had similar situations. I've cancelled and then reposted directly to a WL, only after having repeated time outs or declines from heavily W-Listed books.

Are there instructions for tag for buddy list in the "ask librarian" section.  I tried to tag on my buddy list.  I've tried to hit enter after making up the tag but can't seem to get the tag to get to the buddy list.

TIA

Hi Phyllis! I don't know if there are instructions, but I can explain it quickly. Just had to do it for a Live Help question yesterday.

To make a brand new tag, choose manage tags from the drop down menu. Type in the tag you want to make and click create. Then, you can go back and check the box by the member you want to tag and then choose the tag you want to apply from the drop down menu. Choose the tag you want to apply from the "Apply Tag" part of the drop down menu. You don't have to click anything else, it loads on its own as soon as you click the tag.

Hope that helps!

Hi Valli,

Thanks for the instructions.  I still can't get it to work.  But, all I have to do is look in my transaction archive and I will DEFINITELY remember not to order from this person again.

Just finished reading the Sara Donati - "Into the Wilderness" series which ended with "The Queen of Swords".  I'm interested in recommendations of early America - not necessarily with romantic themes.  (Prefer murder and mayhem lol)

Hi Genie--

Must be something in the air -- I've gotten several "icky" books recently too.  I'm sorry you had that experience.

It probably goes without saying, but since I've seen folks post that they don't mark books with a problem (even if there is one) ... I hope you've been doing so, so that R&R can keep an eye on their swapping patterns.

I do wish there were an automated "block" list of some sort, but I can imagine that would cause havoc with the system.

In the Help Center, if you enter the search term "buddy", you should get an option for "How to Use the Buddy List", which talks about tags.  I would post them here, but the icons for the buttons to click on never come through for me when I cut and paste.  The link should get you mostly there, though.

Cheers,

Catt

Hi Catt,

I love your tag line!

You know, I didn't mark that there was something wrong with the books. To me, they were filthy. The covers were food-encrusted. Although I cleaned them with rubbing alcohol, I would never re-post them.

But condition is so subjective unless the cover is obviously missing or the spine is broken or pages missing. So, no, on this occasion, I let it go.

Today, I received 3 books - 2 unpostables and stated as such - from a buddy. I would have needed a magnifying glass to find whatever was wrong with the 2 unpostables - though on principle I won't re-post. So I guess it works both ways.
