Second time this week I received a pm on this particular book asking if I still wanted it despite the book not meeting PBS guidelines...............this was the most recent message..........I have received this book from another member. I do not smoke and there is no "smoking smell", neither are there any marks in the book. However, the back cover does show that there has been some water damage. The cover, as are all pages are intact, and very readable. The book is in good condition, but not excellent. Do you still want it? If not, I will take it from the posted list. Thank you.

Because some people think they can get away with posting unpostables via FIFO.  At least they're sending you a PM first and not just sending the book and hoping you don't say anything about it being unpostable.

True.....the first time I was offered this book by a different sender.....they kept asking me telling me how new the book I was and did I want it. Twice I answered and said if it meets my RC then sure ship it. After messaging me a final time, stating they felt uncomfortable shipping me the book, they wrote in the reason why they couldn't ship it as " other member is being difficult to deal with over the condition of the book". I just had to laugh to myself and shake my head. It was so clear they were trying to skirt around my RC by getting me to say sure ship the book.....regardless of whether or not it met my RC. Oh well I shall never know and consider myself all the wiser not knowing in this case. I love this site and the occasional frustrating humor that pops up now and again.

I get those messages sometimes. I usually just reply; "If the book is postable according to the site's guidelines, then go ahead and send it. If it is unpostable, then cancel". If they come right out and tell me that the book has damage that makes it unpostable, I'll tell ask them why they're posting an unacceptable book in the first place and tell them to cancel. That usually sends a pretty clear message that they are expected to follow the rules.

I sent a brief message stating water damaged books were not considered postable and left it at that. Wondering if I should report message to PBS so member doesn't continue to disregard rules.

Just checked this particular persons profile to see how long they have been a member....but there is no profile. However, by reading their wish list I can see some of the books were added as far back a smirch 2010..... So definitely long enough to know you can't post books with water damage. The other member has been here since 2005 so I have no doubt she was also well aware how to decide whether or not a book met an RC .

I see other member has now printed the label/postage (????) for this book. I hope she isn't planning on sending it to me anyhow!

Make sure it's not the same person.  She could have cancelled, and it rolled over to the next person.

Check your Transaction Archives to see if the book was cancelled by the other member then rolled over to a another member. I had that happen to me yesterday.

Water damage is not postable FIFO, I'd probably be rather blunt about that.  It's not even negotiable like textbooks and cookbooks.  There's never a good reason for a water damaged book to be posted FIFO.

I know a lot of what I read is older paperbacks that aren't worth much, but if I get them wet at the pool....i just throw them away after finishing them.

Some people are nuts.  You can buy a credit for $2.25 in the bazaar and it cost around that much to mail it.    Don't send water damaged books!!!
