Not Colleen McCulloughs best effort, but then I don't think either she or anyone will ever top her THORN BIRDS. But the book isn't as "weighted down" with characters that have 5 first names and PHd historical data as her Rome series. (I enjoyed them too, but they are a lot heavier reading,) This is a story of passion. Passion lost, passion denied and passion released and the consequences of all.

Shorter book by the author of Thornbirds. A good story - not quite as good as Thornbirds.
